The Moon and the Bull

Very early on, the Sumerians in southern Mesopotamia noticed the connection between the full moon and the flooding of the rivers which supplied water to the fields. The moon god was therefore also regarding as a fertility god, and this fertility aspect was expressed through the image of the most powerful and virile member of the herd: the bull.
