And this year's fashions are more unforgiving than most offering bright white denims, dungarees, sheer outfits and the most controversial of all - culottes.

FEMAIL looks at the risky summer trends that are worth putting to the test... at least once.

WHITE JEANS

Even with summer right around the corner, white may still feel like a feared sartorial choice, specially for those who are more at home in familiar dark shades.

White denim can feel like a gamble, not only because of the constant battle for them to remain unsoiled, but the snug fit and the fact that without that slimming blue, grey or black colour the jeans will instantly add width to women's thighs.

For an easy chic and summery look, follow the celebrities' lead and go slim and pair with a simple top. If you're feeling brave, go for something a little extra with additional detailing such as leg rips or embroidered panelling, like Kate Upton.

CULOTTES

Undeniably this season's it-pants, many choose to avoid the culotte because of what they believe is an unflattering silhouette.

However, culottes are a staple piece for any summer wardrobe, and defenders say they're flattering because they nip in at the stomach area and add curves to even the most boyish figures.

Well-styled stars like Gigi Hadid opt for a longer calf-length style, while Kendall Jenner shows that you can pair them with trainers as well as heels.

And TOWIE's Lydia Bright teams hers with a matching tailored jacket.

SHEER FABRICS

It's been championed on every red carpet recently, with the likes of Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian taking the opportunity to bare their skin at the Met Gala.

For a toned down day-to-day option, choose either a sheer top or bottom - never both.

Keep the sheer aspect to a minimum, where the translucent element is more of a pretty detail - such as in a skirt or in a top - rather than showcasing an unwelcome abundance of skin.

Blake Lively (above), went for a sheer black top, while Olivia Munn made sure her sheer-striped skirt came with a modesty-protecting lining.

KNEE-LENGTH SANDALS

A favourite of the Kardashians and Jenners, the lace-up versions, caged styles and corset peep-toe variety of sandal are all over celebrity Instagram accounts.

To incorporate this trend into your everyday summer wardrobe, opt for a simple straight style in black, and keep the outfit relatively floaty rather than tight so the look veers on boho rather than urban.

Follow Millie Mackintosh's lead (above) and opt for a flat pair as the heeled variety can look like you're trying too hard.

CROP TOP

Model and reality star Kendall Jenner is a poster girl for the crop top, opting for styles that come to just below her rib cage and draw attention to the navel.

For a more demure look, or for those that are hesitant to have that much skin on show, opt for a long-sleeved version, like Rosie Fortescue from Made In Chelsea.

To add an element of glam, choose a Lycra style that has a ruched knotted front for a flattering look.

Steal Beyoncé's style in a cut out romper by Stella McCartney

From the Met Gala to her Givenchy photoshoot, Beyoncé has had a seriously stylish week so far. And whilst her outfit this time is a little more low key, it's high fashion nonetheless!

She headed out for the night wearing a cut out romper by Stella McCartney with some sky high denim platform heels by Charlotte Olympia. It's double denim, but not as you know it!

When you think of Stella McCartney, red carpet gowns might spring to mind, but between her retro flares, cute dresses and rompers, the British designer's denim pieces are dominating this season.

Click the link (right) to buy Beyoncé’s all-in-one at Matches Fashion. We love the light wash and button front of this style, which you could dress up with heels (buy Queen Bey's from the carousel below) or down with some classic Converse.

But if you need a little time to save up for Stella, our high street options are sure to keep you ticking over.

PLAYSUIT

The playsuit is very much back this summer, but rather than the loud tribal stringy varieties of yesteryear, this season's offerings are pretty and feminine.

Take note from the likes of reality star Lucy Watson and songstress Taylor Swift, whose long-sleeved pieces up the ante with bold monochrome print or saccharine pastels.

Beyoncé's all-denim number has the retro edge with wide box sleeves and pockets, a one-button structure and a playful front cut-out.

Add wedges or block heels to elongate the legs even more.

Singer Mollie King, 27, chose a white baggy flannel version

DUNGAREES

For some, the idea of getting back in dungarees may feel a little too nostalgic, but a whole host of celebrities are proving that this summer is set to see a huge revival.

Actress Kate Bosworth wears hers in a versatile dark-blue denim with flared legs, paired with a white racer vest, whereas The Saturdays' singer Mollie King sports a baggy white number with a plain grey vest.

To keep the outfit looking fuss-free, avoid blouses or collared pieces and opt instead for a tapered leg or a flared leg to keep the look on-trend.

FLARES

Not for the faint-hearted, the Seventies staple has made a comeback in a big way and is here to stay for the summer of 2015.

Denim is the safest option for those who are new to the trend, but for those who want to try fabric styles, keep the colours muted, in shades of grey, white or black.

Amal Clooney, who's never shy about pattern and colour, likes her flares with a busy graphic print but Rosie Huntington-Whiteley keeps hers simple in dark denim.

Celebrities always wear heels or wedges in order to elongate the leg even further, and to avoid appearing dumpy.

Pair with a cotton shell-top or T-shirt for a casual-meets-glam look.
