Three's a charm! The Voice finalists perform trio of songs as voting kicks off to determine season eight champion

The final four competitors on The Voice battled head-to-head on Monday night for the season eight title and record deal prize.

Sawyer Fredericks and Koryn Hawthorne of Pharrell Williams' team, Meghan Linsey of Blake Shelton's squad and Joshua Davis of Adam Levine's team performed to win America's votes.

Each of them sang three times, including a new single, a duet with their coach and a cover version.

Christina Aguilera had to watch on without a competitor in the finale.

Koryn Hawthorne, 17, from Team Pharrell kicked off the final by performing It's a Man's Man's Man's World by James Brown.

Before she sang Pharrell admitted he 'could not believe' he had got Koryn onto his team.

'He sees something in me and that makes me believe in myself,' said the high school student.

Koryn, from Abbeville, Louisiana, revealed that her mother had raised her as a single parent while her father had been in prison, but that she and her dad were growing closer.

'The Voice has brought my family together and I am very grateful for that,' she said.

'All four of us can put the competition aside to say that we are unbelievably proud of you,' said Adam.

'You did it sis, that was your best performance yet, what a good time to do that,' said Blake.

Christina said she had a 'special connection' with her and it had been a fun song.

'You did it. When is the last time we got to see a young woman control the band, respectfully. You were born for this,you are something else,' said Pharrell.

Meghan Linsey, 28, then debuted her first single Change My Mind.

Meghan wrote the soul song in the middle of a painful relationship and said it was about not changing for a guy.

'I have come a long way and I am on the other side of that stuff that was holding me back,' she told Blake before the song.

'I'm proud of you and of the show for promoting it,' said Adam.

'Ive got to hand it to you, you guys wrote the hell out of that song,' Blake told her.

Sawyer Fredericks and Pharrell then performed a duet of the 1972 number one Seals & Croft hit Summer Breeze.

Detroit native Joshua Davis then performed his original song The Working Man's Hymn.

Blake told the singer-songwriter that the song was 'freaking stuck in my head. That's a good sign.'

Adam told Joshua he had written a 'fantastic song.'

'That makes me really happy, this guy is the real deal,' said Adam as he urged America to vote for him.

Sawyer Fredericks then performed his original single Please that was written by his musical idol Ray LaMontagne specifically for the 16-year-old finalist.

Pharrell warned Sawyer that his style of music was 'quite honestly not popular' but that the youngster was making it popular through the show.

Adam told Sawyer that his situation was the same as Eddie Vedder giving him a song when he was the same age.

'That would blow my flipping brains out, I would not be able to comprehend that. Dude, you win. That is the coolest thing ever, game over,' said Adam.

Pharrell told Sawyer that his dream had come true and he was living it right now.

Joshua Davis was next up performing his version of Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah.

'It's been wild. This experience has been amazing for me,' Joshua told host Carson Daly before singing, while Adam urged him to 'boil over' in the performance.

'I love that you are my last guy, it was supposed to be this way,' Adam told him before he took to the stage.

And the judges loved what they saw.

Christina said she had been 'so engaged' by the heartwarming performance.

'I wanted for you to go for it in a way that you never have and Pharrell turned to me half way through and that was what he was feeling. You should be very proud of yourself,' said Adam.

Meghan Linsey and Blake Shelton then performed Aretha Franklin's Freeway of Love.

Up next Joshua and Adam performed Paul Simon's Diamonds On The Sole Of Her Shoes.

Koryn then performed her new single Bright Fire, which was written by Pharrell himself.

Pharrell told her he has wanted to perform it for a long time but has never been able to get it quite right and that it was meant for Koryn.

'It feels like sunshine and that is what God is to us,' Williams told her as he urged her to pretend she was in church when she sang it.

'Pharrell wrote you a song, like I want one of those too, that's crazy,' said Adam as he called her delivery 'joyful and passionate.'

'I have always had a huge love for you and your ability at this tender age to use your entire body and you deliver a great vocal,' said Christina.

'We did it, we got to sing this song' said Pharrell as he admitted his heart was beating fast.

'This girl is special man,' said the Happy singer.

Next Meghan performed the classic When A Man Loves A Woman.

Before singing Meghan said she had lost her Steel Magnolia record deal when she split up with her ex-boyfriend and The Voice had 'been a great second chance for me.'

Blake said he had seen an amazing transformation of Meghan into a soul singer and that 'this is her chance to win this thing.'

Her coach was thrilled with the performance she gave for him.

'You never know what is happening when we get to a finale but I guarantee you if there was a performance that could have happened tonight to change the course of events, so far that is the performance of the night,' said Blake.

Pharrell said she had rewritten her future while Adam told Meghan she had an extra gear she could go to when she needed it.

New York farm boy Sawyer closed out the finale performances with his version of Neil Young's Old Man.

'Coming from farmers markets and all of that to working with Pharrell has been amazing,' said Sawyer as he admitted he was more worried about doing interviews than performing.

Sawyer said he was never worried about going home as he would always enjoy singing and performing his music.

Adam complimented the 'purity and sanctity' of Sawyer and called him the 'real deal and genuine article.'

Christina said she had been shocked when he picked Pharrell but was thrilled at their journey together.

'You are a gem and I adore you,' Christina told him.

'The clock starts now. Regardless of what happens you are living the dream and I am happy to be anywhere near that dream,' said Pharrell.

The winner of The Voice season eight will be revealed on Tuesday.
