Buffy The Vampire Slayer actor Nicholas Brendon was charged with public intoxication on Saturday - in his third arrest since January.

Brendon, 44, was detained in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, according to U s Weekly.

It comes after he was jailed for 'disturbance' in a Tallahassee hotel in April, and 'destruction' in a Florida hotel in February.

Despite initially refusing to comment on the arrest, Brendon tweeted the next day: 'I'm not allowed to drink. I'm not allowed to swim in the ocean. What the f%#& am I allowed to do? #depressionisreal.'

Reaction: Brendon posted this tweet the day after the arrest

However, the actor appeared to address the incident when he tweeted on Sunday: 'Twatters I love you all. Healing waters of Myrtle Beach. We are all human.'

The message was accompanied by a photo of him standing just beside the surf.

Brendon was in town to appear a the XCON World comic convention.

He has faced numerous brushes with the law this past year, and most recently was arrested in March in Tallahassee after a disturbance at a hotel.

The Tallahassee Democrat reports that Assistant State Attorney A. Callaway Griffith filed new charges in April after Brendon failed to submit urine samples as a condition of his release from jail.

Brendon's spokeswoman released a statement saying he hasn't used drugs or alcohol since his arrest last month, and he's 'looking forward to clearing up this situation and continuing his path to recovery.'

The representative added the warrant was 'a huge misunderstanding.'

In February, the star was also arrested for allegedly trashing another Florida hotel room just days after announcing the end of his four-month marriage and charged with felony grand theft and criminal mischief.

The actor allegedly caused about $450 worth of damage to the room and had a bill of nearly $380 in food and beverage charges.

The actor had separated from wife Moonda Tee after tying the knot in October in Las Vegas.

In mid-October he was also arrested the night before a Comic-Con event in Boise, Idaho and charged with malicious injury to property and resisting and obstructing police officers.

Police were called to a Boise hotel following a disturbance in the hotel lobby and found Nicholas showing signs of intoxication as he ignored their commands.

Hotel staff also told police that he had broken a decorative dish and they wished to press charges.

The actor shortly after his arrest posted on Facebook that he was headed to rehab.

Brendon has previously struggled with alcohol issues entering rehab in 2004 and then again in 2010 after another brush with the law.

In March the actor told TMZ Live that he was 'a survivor of sexual abuse.'

'The man who molested me went to jail for five years when I was a kid. I've never really wrapped my mind around that and I think it's time to start,' he continued.

'I've been battling a lot of depression during all my life and I've been handling it the wrong way.'
