'Brits make terrible actors!' Robert Pattinson turns valet and Sienna Miller is a chimney sweep as UK stars are banished from stage in funny US Red Nose Day skit

It's a British institution that has made its way overseas for the very first time.

But the American's weren't letting those pesky folk from across the pond steal their thunder during the inaugural Red Nose Day fundraiser.

In a hilarious skit during the televised event on Thursday, a whole host of English actors were banished behind the scenes as emcee Seth Meyers declared: 'Brits make terrible actors'

While they didn't get to take the stage, the Brit stars were certainly made useful and given a variety of tasks to keep the show running smoothly from backstage at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York.

Twilight star Robert Pattinson was assigned valet and seen taking car keys from a guest before speeding off in - and crashing - a silver Chevy Volt.

Actress Sienna Miller did her best chimney sweep impression in a traditional white shirt and black waistcoat and flat cap.

But the actress pointed out the classic stereotype wasn't quite accurate as she held a dusty looking chimney brush.

The segment was introduced by Gwyneth Paltrow after she dropped in from the ceiling via a wire (and getting stuck) and told Seth she had just bumped into a lot of Brits backstage.

Which was followed by Seth explaining that he was keeping them back there as it is was a US debut.

Seth said: 'We got Orlando Bloom running the sound board' and as the cameras moved in to the English actor, he shot a harassed look and shooed them away.

'Simon Cowell is directing,' Seth said, 'Sir Ian McKellen is writing teleprompter.'

Gwyneth started to read on the prompter: 'Sir Ian McKellen is the greatest actor of all time and may be the greatest human ever,'

But Seth soon caught on and told Ian to stop.

Seth continued: 'Eddie Redmayne's job is to wish people good luck.' as cameras showed the Oscar winner shaking hands with a group of people backstage.

'Benedict Cumberbatch's job is to mark up cue cards,' the host revealed as Cumberbatch was seen hunched over a desk struggling to come up with words as he held a marker pen.

Red Nose Day - considered the UK's No. 1 television charity benefit - is making its US debut.

According to NBC.com, the benefit will help 12 charity organisations that strive to lift children and young people out of poverty in America and other countries.

Over a period of three decades, the event has raised more than $1 billion for poverty-stricken children in the UK and Africa and has become a hugely popular spectacle, jam-packed with skits from the best in British comedic talent.

And now, for the first time ever, Red Nose Day intends to work similar magic in America.

Jack Black, Nick Cannon, Michelle Rodriguez and Blake Shelton's efforts to help the needy have been captured on film and will be shown during the telecast.
