Ouch! Krysten Ritter sports painful-looking cuts all over her face as she shoots scenes for Netflix series A.K.A. Jessica Jones

Krysten Ritter looked like she had been involved in some serious fisticuffs as she walked through the streets of New York on Thursday - but her fans can breathe easy as it was all fake.

The 33-year-old actress sported some serious fake facial injuries on set of her new Netflix series A.K.A. Jessica Jones.

Based on the Marvel comics, Ritter is playing a former superhero who decides to become a private detective.

The raven-haired beauty was spotted in New York City filming a dramatic scene which required her to wear fake injuries on her face.

Ritter wore a dark hoodie underneath a leather jacket, and finished off her private investigator costume with a pair of biker boots and ripped jeans.

Ritter's most memorable role on the small screen is tragic drug addict Jane Margolis on Breaking Bad.

Her success on that show has led to plenty of opportunities for the former model from Pennsylvania.

The Big Eyes star has frequently been spotted filming scenes for the upcoming Netflix series, which currently has the working title of Violet.

The new show is based around popular Marvel comics character Jessica Jones and will also star American actress Carrie Anne Moss.

In February Marvel announced the addition of Carrie-Anne as Harper, 'a no-nonsense woman who could prove a powerful ally to Jessica... if Jessica doesn't completely alienate her first.'

Melissa also had kind words for Carrie-Anne, who starred as Trinity in all three films of the Matrix trilogy.

She said: 'Throughout her career, Carrie-Anne has embodied a wide range of characters in a compelling and relatable way and I have no doubt she will bring that talent to A.K.A. Jessica Jones.'

Screenrant commented that the character of Harper appeared to be an original one created for the series, and not stemming from the Jessica Jones comics.

Carrie-Anne joins Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and David Tennant as Killgrave, A.K.A The Purple Man in the upcoming Marvel series.

The hotly anticipated series comes as part of a list of scheduled releases by Netflix, based on Marvel heroes The Defenders: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.

Daredevil will premiere on Netflix on April 1, with A.K.A. Jessica Jones expected to follow later on in 2015.
