Katie Holmes was spotted removing a mysterious dental appliance on the Palos Verdes set of Showtime's Ray Donovan on Thursday.

It's unclear whether the 36-year-old actress was wearing a retainer, teeth-straightening Invisalign, or a mouth guard for a stunt.

A blonde assistant dutifully held a tiny blue case open for the Woman in Gold star to place it inside.

The appliance was probably not specifically for Holmes' guest-starring role as wealthy businesswoman Paige Finney.

'Paige is struggling to find her own power within her family,' Katie - born Kate - said in a behind-the-scenes video.

'The Finney family is a very powerful family. They serve as a symbol of big money and big business...She's tough and not afraid of anyone.'

Remain incognito with a trench coat

Katie Holmes, daughter of Sherlock Holmes...kidding, but with the trench coat and sunglasses it wouldn't seem far from the truth.

Katie was on set for, "Ray Donovan," she plays a character named Paige and we are loving Paige's coat.
