Wearing a pair of light grey trousers with a double-breasted jacket and shirt/tie combo, the British performer was typically handsome.

Sporting a pocket square over-spilling from his pocket, the father-of-two certainly offered an honest portrayal of the fashion-forward time period.

Carrying a bottle of water, which he sipped between takes, he laughed and joked with crew who seemed equally keen to be on-set.

In fact, the Four Weddings and a Funeral star genuinely suited the look and looked much younger than his years.

Also spotted working on the production was Rebecca Ferguson, who could be seen catching and old fashioned-style New York taxi.

Meanwhile, Hugh - who plays St Clair Bayfield opposite Meryl Streep as the titular Florence Foster Jenkins - stands outside a nightclub, calling her name.

The images come just days after MailOnline offered a first look at the new movie, complete with a shot of Meryl, 65, looking ladylike in a silver gown complete with a fur stole and a glittering tiara as she cuddles up to dapper Hugh in the back of a car.

The story follows the infamous New York heiress and socialite's attempts at launching an opera career, despite her terrible voice.

The heiress obsessively pursued her singing dream with the help of her partner and manager St Clair.

The aristocratic English actor was desperate to protect Florence from the truth - which proved impossible when she decided to perform at Carnegie Hall in 1944.

Musical Meryl: The Oscar-winning actress has already showcased her singing skills in films like Mamma Mia!, but will have to put in a poor vocal performance as aspiring soprano Florence

The film, written by Nicholas Martin, is currently shooting in London, with a cast including Simon Helberg, Rebecca Ferguson and Nina Arianda.

This isn't Oscar-winner Meryl's first foray into musical films, following her star turn in Mamma Mia! and Into The Woods.

Florence, born in 1868, was a young piano prodigy, but her musical talent didn't translate to her voice.

The glamorous socialite was convinced the mockery and ridicule she suffered throughout her life was the product of jealousy.

Famed for her lack of talent, tickets for her first ever 'public' performance, aged 76, sold out weeks in advance.

She died a month later after suffering a heart attack.
