'Please write me a part!' Rosie O'Donnell admits to being a huge fan of Australian prison drama Wentworth ... before pleading with show's writers to create a role for her

Australian prison drama Wentworth is making waves overseas, and even earning comparisons to Netflix hit Orange Is The New Black. 

And now it appears that American actress and comedian Rosie O'Donnell wants in on the Logie Award-winning show, even begging the creators for a role.

The 53-year-old tweeted an admission of love for Wentworth during an exchange with show writer Pete McTighe, exclaiming: 'Please write me a part!'

'BINGED WENTWORTH ALL DAY !!!!!!!! FAN FREAKIN TASTIC !!!!,' Rosie passionately tweeted over the weekend.

This caught Pete's attention, as he gushed: 'Rosie O'D loves our show. Amaze.'

The View presenter responded with her request for a role on the show, adding: 'I am there - say when and lock me up !!!'

One of Rosie's 813,000-plus followers asked her if she'd seen the third season yet, and she enthusiastically replies that it's not yet been released in the US.

'I wanna fly to Australia just to see it!' she raved.

Wentworth is highly acclaimed in its home country of Australia.

It enjoyed success at the Logie Awards in April, winning Most Outstanding Drama and lead star Danielle Cormack being named the Most Outstanding Actress on Australian television.

At the ASTRA Awards in March it saw similar success, winning the award for Most Outstanding Drama, while leading lady Danielle Cormack again scored a Most Outstanding Actress nod. 

Rosie hosted her own daytime talk show in the nineties, but more recently is best known as a panelist on The View.
