Soon you can sleepover at the zoo... if you are brave enough spend the night on the edge of the lion enclosure!
- London Zoo are hoping to launch safari huts for guests in spring 2016
- The application is for nine cabins in the upcoming Land of Lions area
- Guests will also get a unique zoo tour after hours, and a cooked dinner
For people desperate to go on a safari, the plans of London Zoo creating huts so you can sleep INSIDE the zoo, could be an easier answer.
That is, if you can sleep next to the unnerving sound of a lion roar!
Bosses have created plans for nine luxurious wooden cabins to be unveiled, and overnight guests will also be able to take advantage of a private tour with keepers, along with an exclusive encounter of feeding time, before enjoying dinner in their safari hut.
Sketches reveal what the new safari huts could look like, if plans for the overnight accommodation opens at London Zoo are approved
An application has been launched and building of the huts should start in in November 2015 if plans are approved by Westminster City Council
The once-in-a-lifetime opportunity will allow up to four guests to stay in the cosy, 167 square metre pods, each with wooden verandas, set among an exotic garden area.
If plans are approved, the new overnight experience will launch in spring 2016, in the upcoming Land of the Lions section.
The development will provide a state-of-the-art new home for critically-endangered Asiatic lions.
Inspiration for the accommodation came from hotels in the lion’s native Gir Forest home in India.
In order to not disturb the giant cats, low level exterior lighting will be used, and the area secured to prevent guests walking around the Land of Lions exhibit, or elsewhere in the zoo.
Animal-lovers will be able to book a stay six nights a week from February to December, and can choose from bespoke family-nights or adults-only stays depending on their preference.
Plans are hoped to be approved this summer, and as construction work is well underway for Land of the Lions, the building of the safari huts should start in in November 2015 if plans are approved by Westminster City Council.
The huts will be opened in the upcoming Land of the Lions section, so guests may want to bring earplugs to sleep through the roars!
