'He was de-weeding the lake': Melissa McCarthy reveals the rather unusual reason why her father missed her Hollywood Walk Of Fame ceremony

You only get one star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Though when Melissa McCarthy received hers last week, her father Michael McCarthy was 'shockingly' absent because he had weed the garden lake.

Melissa, 44, regaled The Graham Norton Show audience with the funny tale this week when she appeared on the BBC One talk show in London to talk about her new film Spy.

The comedienne, who plays unlikely heroine Susan Cooper in the new 007-style spoof, was immortalised on Hollywood Boulevard last Tuesday, though sadly her dad had more pressing matters.

Asked about the one in a lifetime experience, Melissa revealed: 'Shockingly my dad was not there because he was de-weeding the lake. I said, "I'm not going to get another one of these you know,"

'And he said, "I know, but the weeds…" It was strange because he is normally embarrassingly supportive.'

Make like Melissa in cut out sandals from Zara

Rolling out the red carpet for Melissa McCarthy!

She wore a pretty floral print dress as she was honored on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. And her shoes were definitely made for walking! With a collection containing labels like Brian Atwood and Jimmy Choo, you might assume that Melissa's heels are pretty pricey. Aquazzura is a good guess? Kurt Geiger if you're lucky?

The good news is that they're actually from Zara and at just under $100, they're very budget-friendly. We love the cut out details, suede texture and tie back. Plus of course, the nude hue will lengthen your legs in no time at all! Click the link (right) to buy them now.

Or check out the similar styles we've got lined up for you in the edit below. These Asos sandals are even more of a bargain than Melissa's, or they'll be giving you a star in the shoe hall of fame with this Pour la Victoire version!

Melissa, looking gorgeous in an ethereal purple maxi dress, accepted the honour with her husband Ben Falcone by her side.

She and Ben have starred in a number of her very successful films together over the years, including Bridesmaids and her new film Spy.

Ellen DeGeneres as well as Bridesmaids director Paul Feig were also among actress's friends who gathered for the ceremony on the iconic sidewalk two weeks ago.

Melissa's new film Spy, which also stars Jason Statham and Jude Law, is another high octane role for the actress as she takes on a similar character to previous blundersome comedies The Heat and Identity Thief.

CIA analyst Susan nominates herself to go undercover to expose a deadly arms dealer and gets herself into a whole host of trouble in the process.

She appeared on the show, which will air on Friday night, with her British co-star Jude, comedian John Bishop and Jurassic World actor Chris Pratt.
