Ryan Gosling gets his hands dirty as he pumps his own petrol at a filling station in LA

He might be a big movie star, but Ryan Gosling isn't afraid to get his hands dirty.

The hunky 34-year-old was spotting pumping his own petrol at a filling station in Los Angeles on Friday evening.

The handsome actor attempted to appear low-key in blue trainers and track pants as he scrolled through his cellphone.

The Notebook star dressed down in a black and white T-shirt printed with skulls and crossbones which he paired with white-striped black athletic trousers.

Ryan also covered up with a beige and red baseball cap as he refuelled his vehicle.

Though it's not advised to use cell phones at gas stations, the Gangster Squad star took a risk.

He was seen checking his mobile device as he waited for the pump to stop running.

The scruffy-faced star recently returned from shooting his latest film, The Big Short, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Ryan is not the only major name in The Big Short. It also stars Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Christian Bale and Brad Pitt, who also produces the film.

The film is based on Michael Lewis' non-fiction book The Big Short: Inside The Doomsday Machine, which profiled some of the big players who made a fortune during the worldwide economic collapse of 2007-2010 by betting against the sub-prime mortgage market.
