Sweet treat turns sour! Kristina Short is sent packing after she misses the mark with her 'toffee apple' replica set by MasterChef success story Kylie Miller
Monday night's episode of MasterChef Australia saw a front-runner battle it out against a familiar face to the bottom three and another who's flown under the radar.
And in the end it was radar-dodger, Kristina Short who was sent packing after failing to beautifully replicate an overwhelmingly complicated dish.
Former MasterChef contestant, Kylie Miller entered HQ to deliver the day's challenge, and she didn't go easy on the amateurs.

In for a treat: Former MasterChef contestant, Kylie Miller entered HQ to deliver Monday's elimination challenge, and she didn't go easy on the amateurs
Since leaving the show in 2012, Kylie has become one of the show's biggest success stories.
Nowadays she works at Mugaritz in Spain's spectacular San Sebastian, the sixth best restaurant in the world.
On Monday night's menu was her 'Toffee Apple', but while the dessert's name was clear as day, the dish itself was a smorgasbord of elements and steps.
She lifted the cloche to reveal the dessert to Kristina and her opponents, Rose Adam and Ashleigh Bareham.
'It's a caramelised white chocolate glaze filled with a mousse and liquid apple centre,' she began, before explaining that it also contained a salted caramel gelato, a chocolate crumb, ice malt shards, eggless meringues, apple jelly and a sprinkle of fennel.
Voila! On Monday night's menu was her 'Toffee Apple', but while the dessert's name was clear as day, the dish itself was a smorgasbord of elements and steps
Tough task: She lifted the cloche to reveal the dessert to Kristina Short and her opponents, Rose Adam and Ashleigh Bareham
To finish it off she also created an edible spoon to eat it with.
There are 14 elements with 28 steps for the work of art and the ladies with have two-and-a-half hours to produce the near-impossible dish.
Of the three contestants fighting to stay in the competition, Ashleigh is the only one to specialise in desserts.
As the trio got to work, Kylie told each of them that multi-tasking was crucial, and while Ashleigh did it like a pro, Kristina and Rose struggled.
Halfway into the cook, Rose had a mental blank and she found herself battling to follow the recipe, not a good sign considering it was her sixth time in the bottom three.
Too confident? Kristina, Rose and Ashleigh were all smiles until the dessert that they would be replicating was presented
Need a hand? As the trio got to work, Kylie told each of them that multi-tasking was crucial, and while Ashleigh did it like a pro, Kristina and Rose struggled
Kylie told the show's judges, Matt Preston, George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan that she didn't think Rose and Kristina would be able to produce all the elements for the Toffee Apple treat.
Rose hit trouble again when her caramel glaze was too dark as she trickled it over her mousse spheres, meaning it would be far too bitter to taste.
Soon there was just five minutes to go, and the ladies were rushing to wrap up their elements in progress.
Ashleigh is plating up her replica of the exquisite dessert while the others are making mistakes left, right and centre.
Finally, it was time to present.
What next? Halfway into the cook, Rose had a mental blank and she found herself battling to follow the recipe, not a good sign considering it was her sixth time in the bottom three
Dessert queen: Ashleigh breezed through each step
Ashleigh's was the first to be taste-tested by the judges, and she completed every element and every step dished to her by Kylie.
The cool, calm and collected contestant was praised for her efforts and given two thumbs up from each of the professionals.
Rose was next and she was sweating bullets over her wobbly dish.
'That was the hardest one!' she said of her sixth elimination fight.
She didn't have time to create the edible spoon, and at the end of the day, her dessert wasn't a complete replica and lacked the flavour it needed.
All smiles: Finally it was all over and Ashleigh's was the first to be taste-tested by the judges, and she completed every element and every step dished to her by Kylie
Sweet tooth: Kylie was very happy with what the 23-year-old produced
Just like Rose, Kristina's dish missed key elements.
Kylie said Kristina's edible spoon was better than Ashleigh's, as was her glaze, but because she missed the more salty elements, everything tasted a little too sweet.
As they lined up to hear their fate, each contestant was drowning in nerves.
In the end, Rose survived another elimination, and Ashleigh excelled, meaning Kristina was to pack her bags and leave the competition.
Which one? While Ashleigh was the stand out, it was between Kristina and Rose as to who would be going home
Tearful goodbye: In the end, Rose survived another elimination, meaning Kristina was to pack her bags and leave the competition
