So that's how she stays in shape! Modern Family star Julie Bowen, 45, gets quite the workout as she bikes uphill with heavy backpack

Julie Bowen always looks amazing on the red carpet and now we know how she gets that way - by working out. 

The 45-year-old mother of three was seen biking around her LA neighborhood on Monday carrying what appeared to be a very heavy backpack.

Julie, who plays Claire Dunphy on the hit ABC comedy Modern Family, was noticeably huffing and puffing as she made her way up the hill.

Opting for comfort, Bowen sported a horizontally-stripped black and white t-shirt with pocket detail. She also had on black bicycle shorts and comfy pink-laced grey sneakers.

With all of the effort the actress puts into staying in shape, it's no wonder she stays looking toned and youthful.

Running has also been a vital component of Julie's exercise routine, she has revealed.

In an interview with Runner's World magazine last year, she credited running for providing a clarity of mind.

'More than losing the baby weight, it helped me to regain my sanity,' the actress explained.

'When you are in a house with lots of babies, no sleep, and everything is about their needs all of the time, I found that going out for a run in the morning before they got up—even it was just for half an hour—made me feel like I did something for myself.'
