The Glamour Women of the Year Awards 2015 have kicked off, with a host of big names from both sides of Atlantic descending on London for the annual star-studded ceremony.

Claudia Winkleman's hosts this year's event which is taking place at Berkeley Square Gardens, and honours the top names in music, TV and fashion.

Kate Hudson, Suki Waterhouse, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Ellie Goulding all chose to up the glam factor with some daring dresses.

Kate, 36, represented the US stars with her head-turning look, choosing a deep red dress which featured a plunging neckline slashed to her naval.

The blonde beauty kept things demure on the bottom half of the dress thanks to a pleated floor length skirt, adding a simple metallic clutch.

She made the most of the daring neckline by styling her long locks into a pretty up do, finishing off her ultra glam ensemble with some statement drop earrings.

The How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days star met up with her mum Goldie Hawn on the celeb-packed red carpet, with the 69-year-old Hollywood icon contrasting with her daughter by flashing her legs in a studded mini dress.

After a week of plunging necklines and skimpy dresses during the live Britain's Got Talent finals last week, 44-year-old Amanda Holden went for a decidedly more demure look as she hit the red carpet on Tuesday evening.

The TV star stood out thanks to the bold floral print of her satin number, but was relatively covered up in the floor length number which nipped her in at the waist.

With her blonde locks left loose and wavy, Amanda added some strappy gold heels and kept her makeup simple with a slick of pink lip colour and shimmery eyes.

While Little Mix made the Glamour Awards a girls night, US star Kaley Cuoco was many of guests to turn the event into a date evening as she arrived with her husband Ryan Sweeting.

The Big Bang Theory star chose a simple little black dress as she hit the London event, with the midi number featuring some pretty sparkle detail on the back and hips.

Kaley's new pink hair added some colour to her look, with the actress matching her new do with her peachy pink blusher and lipstick. The star told MailOnline of her new hair colour: 'I was scared to do it, but glad I did!'

She added that she was enjoying showing her tennis player husband around the city, gushing: 'We love coming to London. It's such a great city. I'm here for a few days with my man which is great.'

After the red carpet came the main event, as awards were dished out to the year's biggest stars. Ex love birds Rita Ora and Calvin Harris were named winners, with DJ Harris - now said to be dating Taylor Swift - presented with the Man of the Year gong by model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

The Voice coach Rita stayed away from the ceremony, accepting her gong for best TV Personality via video link.

Meanwhile, Fearne Cotton was named top Radio Personality - just days after airing her final show on Radio 1.

Claudia Winkleman - who was hosting tonight's glitzy London ceremony - was named best Presenter alongside Tess Daly for their Strictly Come Dancing roles. Tess admitted in their acceptance speech that it's been a rollercoaster year since the two ladies found out they'd be teaming up to host the BBC show: 'This time last year we were terrified and about to start this whole thing. She was vomiting on me on an hourly basis,' she joked, as Claudia quipped: 'I was going to be David Moyes and about to take that thing down.'

Hollywood actress Kate Hudson - who split from British Muse frontman Matt Bellamy last year - won the Entrepreneur gong at the Glamour Women of the Year awards, while her screen star mum Goldie Hawn also made an appearance.

The Theory of Everything star Felicity Jones took home the Film Actress trophy, while Gillian Anderson, who won plaudits for her stage role in A Streetcar Named Desire, was presented with the Theatre Actress award.

Kate Hudson may have have looked flawless on the red carpet earlier in the evening but she had a wobbly moment when she picked up the Entrepreneur prize, tripping as she walked up to the podium. Once safely on stage the Hollywood star gushed about her 'incredibly exciting year and a half' since starting her fitness wear company Fabletics.'

'I grew up with an incredibly ambitious mother,' she added of mum Goldie Hawn's influence. 'But her ambition was for a greater purpose. In true Goldie mama form becoming a producer of her own movies was for all women. My mother let me watch her set up platforms for women to support each other. The judgement needs to go and we need to create a support system that makes us more powerful than we ever would be alone.'

Other winners included The Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco Sweeting (Comedy Actress), Scandal star Kerry Washington (International TV Actress), model Suki Waterhouse (Breakthrough) and singer Ellie Goulding (Solo Artist). Kaley made sure to thank her date for the evening, tennis player husband Ryan Sweeting as she she told the crowd: 'Thank you to my husband for being my date. You're so cute, so so cute. I hope I continue to be funny and make you guys laugh.'

Ellie also made sure to pay tribute to her man, McBusted star Dougie Poynter, gushing: 'My boyfriend is the coolest person in the world. Definitely punching above my weight.'

Suki meanwhile apologised for anyone who hadn't seen her recent acting work, telling the star-studded room: 'I know most of you won't have have seen me act but I guess that's the point of the breakthrough award. I promise I've been working very hard and I hope I make you all proud.'

Comedian Amy Schumer picked up the Glamour Trailblazer award, quipping that Ellie Goulding's acceptance speech didn't make much sense to her. 'I love the way Ellie was like "thank you for loving real people" and she's like a supermodel,' she joked before talking the audience through her own body confidence: 'I'm like 160lbs right now and I can catch a d**k whenever I want,' she declared.

'I didn't lose my two front teeth until fifth grade and I got my period that same week. My mom told me I didn't need to shave above my legs. I'm very glamorous, I don't feel out of place. Tonight I had one goal: take my underwear off at the end of the night and not make it look like I blew my nose on it.'

Kerry Washington who won the International TV actress for her work on Scandal, also had the audience laughing with her speech as she quipped: 'Christian Louboutin just called me a b***h - that's awesome!' before launching into a powerful message about feminism. 'Modern glamorous feminism is about being in a fabulous red soled shoe and being on a pedestal and having a voice and being a three dimensional person,' she told the crowd.

'A part of me will always be a little girl in New York City riding the subway to the Bronx and I'm so lucky to be in this show. This is the golden age of television and it's great to be a woman. I only have a job because you guys watch me!'

The guests headed to the Cointreau bar after the event to indulge in Cointreau Fizz cocktails.
