Little People, Big World couple Matt and Amy Roloff announce divorce after 27 years of marriage

Little People, Big World stars Matt, 53, and Amy Roloff, 50, announced on Friday that they had officially filed for divorce.

The couple - parents to four children, Jeremy, Zach, Molly, and Jacob - had first announced a trial separation back in March of 2014.

However, in an official statement shared with Us Weekly, the pair revealed: 'After 27 years of marriage, it is with great sadness that we have come to the difficult decision to file for divorce.'

The statement continued: 'We are proud of what we have accomplished together, including raising four wonderful children who have grown to become remarkable adults and building our strong and ongoing successful business.'

Following their original trial separation, the two had decided to try living apart while still co-parenting and running the family farm together in Helvetia, Oregon.

However, on Friday they shared with their fans that it was for the best that they make their separation a permanent one.

'Last year, it was long and tough,' Matt explained, of he and Amy's time on the long-running TLC series.

'Amy and I had a lot of tensions, so right around Thanksgiving, I thought I would move over to the [guest] house for a little bit...Amy and I stuck it out for years when maybe we shouldn't have,' he continued. 'I never quite felt at home in my own home, so something needed to change.'

The mother-of-four added that there will certainly be an adjustment period for the pair, as they move forward with the separation after so many years together.

'It's not my choice for him to leave,' Amy admitted. 'I am saddened by it. It's been 26 years. We don't have a plan for how we're going to work this out, so it's not going to be easy.'

Building an empire: The couple owns Roloff Farm, a popular tourist attraction just outside of Portland, Oregon, and have documented their daily life - along with their four children - on TLC series Little People, Big World since 2006

The couple put up a united front at son Jeremy's wedding to Audrey Mirabella Botti in September - the episode aired September 30 - but it seems they found their struggles to be insurmountable.

'Our kids and our ever growing family, and the love and support we have for them, will be our priority,' the pair said in their statement, also shared on the Little People, Big World Facebook account and official site.

'We will continue to work together side by side in the daily responsibilities for our many current ventures. We would like to thank our family, friends and all our fans for their continued support and understanding during this difficult time.'

The family gained fame beginning in 2006 with the premiere of their TLC series Little People, Big World, which has now been running for over 9 years, and has aired over 250 episodes.

The couple also run Roloff Farm - a popular tourist attraction featuring putt putt golf, an exotic petting zoo, wagon tours, etc., - for which renovation and maintenance has been well-documented on their series.

As the statement was released on Friday, Amy took to her Instagram and Twitter accounts to document a road trip to visit daughter her Molly.
