'I'm very thankful': Tom Hanks' wife Rita Wilson reveals she has 'won' her breast cancer battle as she dazzles in sparkling black dress at Tony Awards

Rita Wilson has 'won' her battle against breast cancer.

The 58-year-old actress - who is married to Tom Hanks - underwent a double mastectomy and breast reconstruction in April after a diagnosis of invasive lobular carcinoma but says she is now in recovery.

Speaking as she walked the red carpet at the 2015 Tony Awards at New York's Radio City Music Hall, on Sunday evening, she told E! News: 'I feel great. When you do Broadway, you have a family there and one at home as well. I had so much love through the process. I'm very thankful.'

The Girls star previously admitted she made the decision to go public with her illness to encourage other women to get checked for breast cancer because 'early diagnosis' is key when it comes to beating the disease.

She said: 'I feel blessed to have a loving, supportive husband, family, friends and doctors and that I am the beneficiary of advances in the field of breast cancer and reconstruction.

'I am getting better every day and look forward to renewed health.

Get fierce like Rita in a Tom Ford sequin gown

Rita Wilson shimmer and shines at the Tony Awards red carpet in a glamorous Tom Ford sequinned dress from the Fall 2015 collection.

This gown features cut-outs that accentuate the clavicle, an often forgotten but incredible sexy part of woman's body. What's a red-carpet gown these days without cut-outs! We love how even though it's quite a covering dress, it still remains ravishingly sexy.

This Tom Ford gown was shown on the runway in a copper tone and won't be available until the fall. But in a world with brands like Nasty Gal and ASOS, we don't have to worry about that. Check out our edit below for similar options.

And don't forget- this garment essentially boils down to two things: cut outs and sparkle . So wear it with all the diva confidence you'll get, knowing you can be covered and chic.

'I hope this will encourage others to get a second opinion and to trust their instincts if something doesn't 'feel' right.'

After returning to Broadway in May following time off for her procedure and recover, Rita said: 'I want people to know that even though you go through life altering experiences, that this beautiful thing we call life, goes on.

'I know that not everyone will have this good fortune but I think it's important to let you all know that there are good stories. I hope this article is helpful in some ways to someone you know who may be dealing with a similar circumstance.'
