Founded in 1985, the Academy of Traditional Fighting Arts teaches Okinawan Karate ( a mix of Goju-ryu and  Shorin-ryu which we have called "Muidokan Karate-jutsu), Kobudo (traditional weaponry, Arnis (also called Arnis De Mano , Escrima or Kali), Shaolin Kung fu, and the internal (soft) arts of Taijiquan (T'ai chi chuan), Baguazhang (Pa Kua Chang) and Xingiquan (Hsing-I Chuan).  It's main centre is based in Perth, Western Australia, with another branch in London, UK.  It offers instruction in effective self-defence with realistic, easy to learn techniques.  Classes are taught by professional, dedicated instructors of over 25 years experience in a variety of traditional fighting arts.  Students are taught in small, friendly groups with highly individualised attention.  Apart from acquiring skills in self-defence, students can expect to attain a high level of fitness, flexibility, muscular strength and, correspondingly, an improvement in overall health. Specific classes termed "fighting fitness" are geared to fitness and strength, while yoga and taiga (a mix of taiji and yoga) complete the balance.   Our dedicated centre, the Muidokan (house of "wu-wei dao" - the name of our fighting system) is fully equipped with traditional exercise and training equipment as well as modern facilities.  Beginners are always welcome!
