When it comes to romantic relationships, Miley Cyrus says she is open to being with either gender - as long as they are 'down to love' her, revealing that she was just 14-years-old when she confessed to her mother that she was attracted to women.

The 22-year-old singer, who posed naked alongside her pet pig Bubba Sue for the latest issue of Paper magazine, told the publication that considers her own sexuality and gender identification as 'fluid'.

'I am literally open to every single thing that is consenting and doesn’t involve an animal and everyone is of age,' she explained. 'Everything that’s legal, I’m down with. Yo, I’m down with any adult - anyone over the age of 18 who is down to love me.'

Inside the pages of the magazine, Miley continues to prove that she is more than comfortable with her sexuality, flaunting her naked body in a series of photos which see her expose her breasts, as well as her armpit hair and her pubic region, which has even been accessorized with colorful embellishments in a number of the images.

In one photo, Miley is stretching her arms to the sky, exposing her armpit hair, pink painted nipples and a stream of colorful beads that hang from her pubic area.

Another image sees Miley covered in geometric patterns shapes and patterns which have been painted on her body, while her pubic hair is covered by a pale pink stick-on.

Opening up about her sexuality in the candid interview, the chart-topper noted that because she doesn't 'relate to being a boy or a girl', she doesn't need her partner relate to being a boy or girl either.

And while she has had high-profile relationships with Patrick Schwarzenegger and Nick Jonas, as well as a publicized engagement and split from Australian Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth, she said she has had serious romantic partnerships with women as well.

'But people never really looked at it, and I never brought it into the spotlight,' she explained.

The former Disney star recalled being a young teen and telling her mother Tish for the first time that she 'admire[s] women in a different way'.

When her Tish asked her what she meant, Miley exclaimed: 'I love them. I love them like I love boys.'

Miley, who was raised Christian, said it was difficult for her mother to understand her attraction to women.

Tish was worried that her to daughter would be judged and 'she didn't want her to go hell', but all Miley asked was that she accept her - and her mother did.

'She believes in me more than she believes in any god,' Miley said.

And Miley wants everyone to be granted the same level acceptance.

In May, the singer officially announced the launch of the Happy Hippie Foundation, a non-profit she founded, which is dedicated to fighting injustice facing homeless and LGBT youth.

The organization, which Miley discusses in detail in Paper's 'Use your voice' issue, offers kids and teens art and animal therapies as a form of treatment as well as support.

Although Miley lovingly refers to her parents Tish and Billy Ray as 'conservative-a** motherf*****s', she has issues with fundamentalist lawmakers who choose legislation based on their religious beliefs and shun progressive foundations such as Miley's.

'Those people [shouldn’t] get to make our laws,' she said. 'Those people - the ones who believe that, say, Noah’s Ark was a real seafaring vessel. 'That’s f*****g insane. We’ve outgrown that fairy tale, likewe’ve outgrown f*****g Santa and the tooth fairy.'

Miley explained that although people in their fancy cars drive by the homeless all day and ignore them - she couldn't be one of those people. She knows how fortunate she is, and she wants to give back.

'I was doing a show two nights ago, and I was wearing butterfly nipple pasties and butterfly wings. I’m standing there with my t**s out, dressed like a butterfly. How the f**k is that fair?' she asked of her good fortune.

'How am I so lucky?'

Miley is also dedicated to the lives of animals, and she was devastated when her dog Floyd was eaten by a coyote last year. The experience prompted her to become a vegan and give up the consumption of animal products almost immediately.

She has come a long way since she was cast as the star of the Disney Channel's wildly successful series Hannah Montana in 2006, and as a musician, she is continuing to evolve.

Miley is determined to do things her own way for her next album, which she is recording in a studio she built in her garage in Los Angeles, although her label worries that she will veer too far from her pop star roots.

'They’re like, "Don’t make it too weird, don’t make it avant-garde; you can’t go from Miley to Björk!"' she explained.
