David Duchovny, 54, and 46-year-old Gillian Anderson are reprising their legendary roles as the FBI agents for a six-episode miniseries.

And it looked like things are still good between Fox and Dana as they shared a kiss while filming scenes in Vancouver on Tuesday.

Duchovny looked very casual in contrast to the sharply dressed special agent fans are used to, wearing a green military style jacket, loose blue jeans with grey boat shoes and shades.

Anderson looked her usual business-like self  with black heels and a grey skirt and a blue blazer over a white blouse, with her signature red hair flowing about her shoulders.

And it was those shoulders Fox had firm hold of as he leaned in for a quick kiss - although for this scene at least it was just a friendly peck on the cheek.

Excitement for the show's return began building on Monday when Anderson posted a picture from the set of two directors chairs with the names Mulder and Scully, tweeting the caption 'And so it begins...'

Chris Carter, the show's original creator, will serve as executive producer of the revival, and will also write and direct at least one of the episodes.  The 57-year-old recently joined Instagram, opening his account with some behind the scenes shots from the set, including a movie clapperboard with 'UFO test' written on it.

Familiar foes: The miniseries will take up some time after the old series left off, incorporating the wider X-Files mythology, possibly including the plot line about an attempted alien colonisation of Earth.

Unlike 2008's I Want To Believe movie, which was a standalone thriller, Carter has indicated the mini series will take up some time after the old series left off, incorporating the wider X-Files mythology, possibly including the plot line about an attempted alien colonisation of Earth.

The original series ran for nine seasons from 1993 to 2002 and amassed a huge following, pulling in almost 20million viewers per episode at the height of its run.

The new series will have a two-night premiere, debuting on Sunday, January 24, 2016, with the next episode coming the following night at 8pm, which will then serve as the weekly time-slot for the remainder of the series.

Fans hoping Mulder and Scully continue the romance the series finally depicted can take heart in the fact that this is not the only time Anderson and Duchovny have been seen kissing.

In May the two locked lips when Gillian appeared on stage at New York's The Cutting Room during an encore when David was performing tracks from his rock album Hell Or Highwater, where they even sang a duet together.
