She is one of the most memorable characters in American Horror Story: Freak Show

But it was a poor choice of undergarment that was truly horrifying for Sarah Paulson.

The 40-year-old actress flashed a bit of her pink floral slip dress in a lacy white number as she attended a screening event in Los Angeles for her FX series on Thursday.

She looked good despite showing off her underwear in the light floral number while on the red carpet at the gala held at Paramount Studios for American Horror Story: Freak Show.

The 12 Years A Slave star finished off the look with a pair of matching white leather heels and accesorised with a hot pink clutch.

Her signature blonde locks were combed back elegantly as she sported neutral-coloured make-up on her face.

Back in April she announced that she would be returning to the series for the fifth season titled American Horror Story: Hotel.

She tweeted on April 13: 'I so f**keeeen HAPPY to be able to finally tell you: IM BAAAAAACCK!! #AHSHotel'

AHS showrunner Ryan Murphy tweeted the official announcement of her return and told fans of the series that in season five, they can expect the actress to be 'the baddest bad girl of them all.'

Previously on AHS, Sarah played conjoined twins Bette and Dot, witch Cordelia Foxx, reporter Lana Winters, and psychic medium Billie Dean Howard.

The actress started with a small role in season one of American Horror story in 2011-12, and then returned to star in the next three.

Sarah was not the only one who wore white at the event as Angela Bassett stunned in a clinging sleeveless number featuring a V-neckline.

Veteran: the 66-year-old Kathy looked comfortable in all black as she added colour with a patterned scarf

The 56-year-old stunner completed the look with even more white as she rocked a pair of strappy heels with a matching clutch.

The screening event was also attended by other stars including Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Naomi Grossman, John Carroll Lynch, Finn Wittrock and Denis O'Hare.

American Horror Story: Freak Show was centred around one of the last remaining freak shows in the United States in Jupiter, Florida and their struggle for survival.
