British photographer Dan Callister, 39, captured the incredible moment a great white shark attempted to catch the seal off the coast of South Africa (main), leaping up at the animal from below the waves, snapping at its tail. The nimble seal pup managed to escape being eaten, but was left with a horrifying hole in its back after the encounter (inset). The attacked happened close to Seal Island, which is home to hundreds of the animals, and dozens of sharks that hunt them.
