'I trained for two months for Spy': Melissa McCarthy, 44, reveals she worked with a martial arts pro to perform stunts as she shows off 50lb weight loss

She shot to movie star fame as the overweight sidekick in the 2011 hit Bridesmaids, which was followed up by the blockbusters Identity Thief and The Heat.

But to play a CIA field agent in the new comedy Spy with Jude Law and Jason Statham, Melissa McCarthy had to exercise more than her funny bone. The 44-year-old actress told Live With Kelly & Michael on Friday that she also had to put in some hard hours at the gym.

'I studied martial arts for two months,' the Gilmore Girls vet said. 'Turns out I like doing stunts.'

Step out in leopard heels like Melissa

Melissa McCartney made an appearance at Live with Kelly & Michael on Friday looking trim and chic. On the show, she revealed that she spent two months putting in some hard hours at the gym for her role in Spy.

All well and good, but we were captivated with what the funny lady was wearing on her feet. Tabitha Simmon's brown leopard-print pony hair and leather strappy heel 'Bailey' sandals, that's what. And, for $751.50, they can be yours, too. Click right for yours at Bluefly.

Too rich for your blood? Turns out, there are plenty of affordable leopard-print sandals that you can sport now during the summer months. (See our edit below.) It's worth the investment: these will carry you through the fall season as well.

The Mike & Molly vet added, 'I didn't want to get hurt or hurt the woman [I was in a scene with].'

Her workouts included consulting a personal trainer who taught her how to move her body in a way that would make the stunts easier on Spy.

And her past training as a teen with gymnastics and tennis helped her become more agile.

'It did help,' said Melissa, who wore a green top from her own Seven7 collection on the show. 'I do as many stunts as they let me. I just like it,' added the screen vet.

McCarthy has dropped 50 pounds in the past year.

In early June she told CBS This Morning she just stopped obsessing on her figure.

'I feel amazing and I finally said, "Oh, for God sakes, stop worrying about it" and it may be the best thing I've ever done,' the SNL vet said.

On Live With Kelly & Michael, Melissa also joked about her helicopter scene for Spy with Jason Statham.

In a clip, Jason can be seen hanging from Melissa as she holds onto the foot of a helicopter.

'We were 60 feet up,' said the wife of Ben Falcone.

'Weird things go numb,' she said of hanging on for so long. 'You're in this harness for safety and things get moved up. There was a point where I was like those things gotta get down.'

On the show the Tammy actress also spoke a bit about her clothing line Melissa McCarthy Seven7, which come in sizes 4 to 28.

'I just love it. I've kind of been obsessed with clothing and fashion since I was in grade school so it's kind of nuts that I'm getting to do it,' said the Illinois native.

'There were quite a few years where my mom would say, "Ehhh I don't know if that's such a gift."

'I remember in high school I literally was like, "Well, I'm brilliant!" I came downstairs and my mom she said, "What is that?" I said, "I took a turtleneck and I'm wearing it as pants

'And I remember thinking I had cracked the code. I put my legs through the arms and it was kind of like a Hammer pant... On a really short woman I am sure it looked great.'

Melissa told People on Wednesday that she designed clothes that she wanted to wear.

'You look much better when you're comfy,' the actress explained.

'I started this line because I wanted to know: Where are the normal clothes? This really is a selfish venture. I wanted to build a better closet for myself.'

The Groundlings alum added, 'From grade school until age 20, I had one thought in my head, which was doing women's clothing. To get to come back to it, is kind of crazy. It's pretty dreamy.'
