Since wrapping her memorable final scenes as Peggy Olsen in Mad Men last month, Elisabeth Moss's career is going from strength to strength.

The 32-year-old has stepped out of the shadow of her on-screen character to land two new prestigious movie roles.

The actress is due to play a self-destructive alcoholic who hates her life in the screen adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull, according to Deadline.

The publication says she will join Annette Bening and Saoirse Ronan in the screenplay which started as a play in the 19th Century.

Elisabeth is also due to start shooting gritty indie drama The Free World in New Orleans next month, where she'll play a mysterious woman with a violent past.
