Krul blow for Newcastle as keeper is ruled out for season with dislocated shoulder

Newcastle keeper Tim Krul has dislocated his shoulder and is out for the season.

The Dutch stopper was forced off after an hour of the shock 3-0 home defeat to neighbours Sunderland at St James’s Park.

Krul, who has only just returned from a month-long lay-off for an ankle injury, was replaced by former Ireland Under 21 keeper Rob Elliot.

Manager Alan Pardew said: 'Tim has dislocated and is definitely out for the season.’

Pardew said the loss of the Newcastle Number One, coming after he had brought Shola Ameobi on at the break, had denied him the chance to make an important second-half change. He did bring on midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa in the 63rd minute but he was unable to change the game.

Pardew added: 'The loss of Tim and the goal that was not given for offside were a couple of crucial moments. Losing Tim lost me a pair of legs and one sub which was difficult. Those two moments meant Sunderland could see out the win.’

'I don’t feel particularly great. It was a tough day really. They looked like a team that worked all week on us on the training ground and we looked like a team that had a really tough game on Thursday night. We were tired in the mind and fitness and application and  we were always struggling.

Concern: Play was immediately stopped for the goalkeeper to receive treatment

'We did get a little lift in the 60th minute but the referee or linesman denied us. It turned out to be great day for Sunderland and an awful day for us.’

Newcastle United were well and truly beaten today. Regardless, if you had Krul in goal for the whole entire game you still would have lost. No keeper would have saved those goals that Sunderland scored today, and not even Petr Cech would have saved them and he is one of the Premier League's best goal-keepers. I hope Krul makes a speedy recovery and is back for next season. Get well soon, from a Spurs supporter.

The only player (along with Debuchy) to emerge from this embarrassment with some credit. We'd be nowhere without Timmy. Get well soon mate!
