'I've lost everything!' X Factor hopefuls Hannah Shears and Stephanie Woods are distraught after failing to make Nicole Scherzinger's final six at boot camp
Saturday's episode of The X Factor may have ended with Nicole Sherzinger picking her final six, but backstage there was heartbreak for Hannah Shears and Stephanie Woods.
The pair had originally made their way to Wembley Stadium with high hopes having impressed the judges during their initial auditions.
For 20-year-old Stephanie it marked an emotional return some six-years after Sharon took as far as judges houses in Los Angeles, but opted not to take her through to the live shows.
Tough decision: The judges must chose between returning hopefuls Melanie, Amy and Stephanie
With the group already containing a number of returning contestants it was left to Nicole - charged wit the responsibility of mentoring the girls - to whittle them down.
That meant a sing off with Melanie McCabe - who was back for a fourth stab at success on the show - and Amy Mottram, who lost out to eventual finalist Christopher Maloney for last year's wildcard.
However, a performance of Destiny's Child hit Survivor had the judges divided over who to send through.
'I just don't know, I feel like the other voices were stronger,' said Nicole after asking the girls to wait backstage.

Heartbreak: Stephanie is inconsolable after being sent home by Nicole
'You wouldn't want to give her another chance?' pleaded Sharon, but the former Pussycat Doll had already made up her mind.
'You did a very good audition,' she told Stephanie after sending Melanie and Amy through. 'In my eyes you're still young. I don't want you to give up but I'm going to have to send you home.'
Despote Sharon's repeated plea for her to change her mind it was too late, and the fiery judge raced backstage to console a distraught Stephanie.
There was further heartbreak in store for 17-year-old Hannah Shears, who walked away from girl group The Daisy Chains during live auditions at the behest of all four judges.

Heartbreak for Hannah: The teenager chats to Dermot backstage after being sent home
The teenager made a game attempt at Tina Turner hit River Deep, Mountain High, but it fell short when she lost control of its high vocal range.
'You have a good voice, but you need to control that voice because it's getting out of control,' said Gary.
'You picked the wrong song and it was lacking soul.' said Nicole. 'Hannah, I don't think your ready yet and I'm gonna send you home.'
'I've lost everything!' she cried backstage as host Dermot attempted to console her.
The show will continue on Sunday when Sharon, Gary and Louis select their final six.
