Another disgusting picture he shared was taken by his surgeon mid-surgery.

Ross has been recovering in a Sydney hospital since Thursday night, when his arm audibly broke during a charity arm wrestle with former NRL winger Wendell Sailor on Channel Nine's The Footy Show.

Graphic footage of the incident, which captured Ross screaming in pain from the injury, before host Paul Vautin cut to a commercial break, quickly went viral on social media.

The former prop also shared pictures of him recovering in his hospital bed.

'This is probably the most painful thing I've ever had,' Ross, who once broke his neck in an NRL game, told AAP before his surgery on Friday morning.

He later added: 'it was a complete accident and we were doing it for a great cause and trying to get awareness for people and if you said it was going to happen again, I'd still do it.'

Ross told Nine News that he was 'feeling good' and was overwhelmed with the amount of support he had received.

'A lot of morphine has gone into my body over the last 12 hours,' he said before recounting what happened.

'I heard a snap and I didn't know what had happened and when I looked up I saw my arm was at a different level and then I looked at Wendell's face and I knew something was wrong.'

Ross described the injury as the worst pain he's ever felt.

Sailor said on Friday he heard Ross' arm snap during the ugly segment. He also said Ross had spoken to him following the injury.

'He said: "Mate don't feel bad, I'm ok, but you haven't won, I'll take you on with my left hand.'

Sailor said he was 'retiring' from arm wrestling.

Ross, 35, played 173 games in the NRL with four clubs over the course of his 11 year career.
