'I was nervous to meet Sandra Bullock': Melissa McCarthy, 44, confesses she had the jitters before introducing herself to her Heat co-star

They are now fast friends who often have play dates with their children at each other's homes.

But it wasn't always that way for Melissa McCarthy, 44, and Sandra Bullock, 50.

When the Bridesmaid vet was set to make her introduction to the Oscar winner in 2012 before they collaborated on Heat, she got the jitters. 'I was like, "Oh my God, I'm going to get a call from Sandra Bullock!" And I was still saying first and last name, I could only say Sandra Bullock,' the star told People on Friday.

And even after the ice was broken, things still didn't go too smooth.

The conversation was a challenge, added the Spy star.

McCarthy added she could not keep calling the Speed star by her full name. 'Like , Hello, Sandra Bullock. Nice to meet you, Sandra Bullock. Nice to chat with you, Sandra Bullock,' added the Chicago native.

Goofy girls: The 44-year-old star said her favorite part of the blockbuster was the bar scene where the two characters bonded as they get drunk together. 'That whole bar dance scene somehow felt like we got wasted and then nine hours passed by and it was almost like a blackout,' she said

Melissa said she thought it was weird that Sandra was talking in a hushed tone. And when she asked her about it, Bullock said, 'I'm rocking the baby.'

McCarthy admitted that she was surprised Sandra took the time to take a call from her during this moment. 'I was like, "Oh my God!"' added the SNL favorite.

'And then I weirdly whispered, and she was like, "You don’t have to whisper, you're not on speaker,'" and I was like, "I realize that, Sandra Bullock. I'm sorry, Sandra Bullock. I'll stop whispering to your baby."' Sandra's son Louis is now aged five.

Tipsy: 'Literally there was nothing planned, and I don't know how it started. At one point I said, 'Can I get tape?' And then I started taping the forks to my fingers. Sandy said, "What are you doing?" And then she was like, "Did you ever tape your face up as a kid?"'

The two actresses went on to become fast friends on the cop buddy film, which was released in 2013.

She added, 'Sandy said, "What are you doing?" And then she was like, "Did you ever tape your face up as a kid?"

'And then five hours had passed and we were both choking on water laughing. 'I spit several times all over her face and she was doing my nose. It was really weird. You can't believe we're not bombed out of our minds. We were just being idiots.'

In addition to promoting her new movie Spy, Melissa is launching a clothing line.

Growing up McCarthy originally wanted a career in fashion and design. But she ended up quitting college to try her hand at comedy instead.

The mom has the opportunity to take up again her first passion - fashion - and has designed a clothing line called Melissa McCarthy Seven7 that will be available in stores in the fall.

And the clothes, that will come in sizes 4 to 28, are based on what she herself likes to wear.

'You look much better when you're comfy,' the actress explained.

'From grade school until age 20, I had one thought in my head, which was doing women's clothing,' she said. 'To get to come back to it, is kind of crazy. It's pretty dreamy.'

She also told People, 'I started this line because I wanted to know: Where are the normal clothes? This really is a selfish venture. I wanted to build a better closet for myself.'
