Her husband is a throat cancer survivor which he blamed on heavy smoking, so perhaps it is no wonder that Catherine Zeta-Jones looked secretive as she puffed on a cigarette.

The Welsh beauty, 45, was still wearing salon robes with rolled up jeans as she stopped for a sneaky smoke halfway through a hair salon session in New York on Wednesday morning.

Catherine sat on the steps of a car park as she lit up the cigarette, wearing hot pink pumps with a matching handbag.

Catherine, wearing sunglasses outside the parlour, clutched her phone as she smoked.

It was announced in August 2010 that her husband Michael Douglas was suffering from throat cancer, which later was revealed to be tongue cancer.

He underwent chemotherapy and radiation therapy for his condition and was successfully treated.

At the time he attributed the cancer to a combination of years of heavy smoking, a history of alcohol and drug abuse, as well as stress.

After finishing her hair-do, Catherine looked stylish as she was seen running errands near her home in New York.

She stepped out wearing a low-cut hot pink shirt and ripped blue jeans as she took to the streets for some retail therapy.

She was seen leaving an upscale boutique at around 3pm after shopping for nearly three hours.

The Zorro and America's Sweethearts star then stopped by a local supermarket to grab a snack.

With her long dark hair curled into loose waves, she looked laid-back in blue cat eye sunglasses.

The star capped off her casual look with pink pumps, adorned with turquoise bows and a statement belt.

She paired the stylish look with wide-cut navy blue trousers and an oversized orange bag.

On the same day she was seen having a cigarette break outside a hair salon in New York.

She stepped out halfway through her session to rest on some steps while still wearing the salon's protective gown.

The star recently said her relationship with her husband Michael Douglas is 'stronger than ever' after nearly 15 years of marriage, their relationship is 'stronger than ever.'

The lovebirds have two children together, son Dylan Michael, 14, and daughter Carys Zeta, 12.

First introduced in 1998 by Michael's War Of The Roses co-star Danny DeVito, they married on November 18, 2000.

They briefly split in 2013 after a series of agonizing health woes for the pair.

Michael battled cancer in 2010, and Catherine struggled with bipolar II disorder that saw her check in to treatment centers in 2011 and again in April 2013.

In May 2013 they separated and reconciled seven months later.

Speaking to Ellen in April on her chat show, Michael revealed that their trials have strengthened their bond.
