Patrick Roberts rejects Fulham contract as Manchester City look set to snap up teenage prodigy

  • Patrick Roberts has turned down a contract worth around £5,000 a week
  • The 18-year-old is regarded as one of the best emerging English talents
  • Roberts now looks set to join Manchester City

Highly-rated Fulham forward Patrick Roberts has rejected a new contract and is set to join Manchester City.

The 18-year-old is regarded as one of the best emerging English talents and had interest from Manchester United and Chelsea too, but City are pushing ahead with a deal as they look to boost the level of homegrown players in their squad.

Fulham had offered Roberts a new contract worth around £5,000 a week and wanted him to stay at Craven Cottage where they believed it would be better for his development, but he has turned it down.

Roberts, who made 20 appearances for Fulham last season, has featured for England at U19 level

City would put him into their Elite Development Squad but also know that he is good enough to make an impression on their first team squad.

Fulham want up to £10million for Roberts, although any deal is likely to be staggered on appearances and performances.

Roberts, who made his Premier League debut as a substitute against City in March last year, is a skilful player who can play out wide or as a second striker and has an eye for the odd spectacular goal as he showed for England U18s against Russia U18s this week.

He made 20 appearances for Fulham last season predominantly from the bench.
