Even the manager is a fan, with Max Allegri adding to Gazzetta: 'I like Mandzukic, he is a great striker for a team that continually attacks.'

Owner Mike Ashley has told McClaren he has £25m to spend this summer and the Newcastle manager has made signing a No 9 his priority.

Bilic and McClaren go head to head again - this time over Charlie Austin

CRAIG HOPE: It looks as if West Ham are set to rival Newcastle for the signature of Charlie Austin.

Steve McClaren, of course, has a bit of history with Hammers opposite number Slaven Bilic.

He was in charge of Croatia the night McClaren's England failed to qualify for Euro 2008.
