Doctor Who Season 9
Missy (Michelle Gomez) is just one of the characters the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) will meet up with in "Doctor Who" Season 9. BBC Worldwide

“Doctor Who” fans were given a brief teaser during the “Orphan Black” Season 3 finale on Saturday. BBC America aired a promo for Season 9, which will premiere in the fall. Watch the video below.

Unfortunately, the promo video just shows the TARDIS and plays the “Doctor Who” theme song. There is no new footage to be seen, but apparently fans will see new clips soon. A tweet from the show’s official Twitter account promised that a full trailer would debut soon.

While the teaser didn’t reveal any new bits of information about Season 9, the “Doctor Who” writers and BBC America have revealed plenty about the new episodes. With new guest stars, new writers and returning characters, it looks like Season 9 will be jam packed with action. Check out what we know about the Doctor’s (Peter Capaldi) upcoming adventures so far:

1. The Master – The Master has long been the Doctor’s nemesis, and even death can’t stop her. The Master appeared in Season 8 in the form of Missy (Michelle Gomez), but she was ultimately killed. However, that won’t keep her down long. She will return to wreak havoc on the Doctor in the Season 9 premiere.

“Everybody hide -- Michelle Gomez as Missy was an instant hit last year, so she’s straight back to plague the Doctor and Clara in the series opener. But what brings her back into their lives is the last thing they’d expect,” showrunner Steven Moffat said in a press release.

2. Maisie Williams – “Game of Thrones” star Maisie Williams is set to leave Westeros and step into the TARDIS in “Doctor Who” Season 9. However, details about her character are being kept under wraps.

3. Returning Humans – Rigsy (Joivan Wade) was a graffiti artist who helped the Doctor and Clara (Jenna Coleman) during Season 8, episode 9. He’ll return this season in episode 10. According to a press release, Osgood (Ingrid Oliver) will return at some point this year as well, despite being killed by Missy last year.

4. Female Writers – The show has been criticized for its lack of women in the writer’s room, but that will change this year. Former “Torchwood” and "Law & Order: UK” screenwriter Catherine Tregenna will be the first woman to pen an episode since 2008. She isn’t the only female on board. Ex-"Merlin" scribe Sarah Dollard will write episode 10, according to the show’s official Twitter.

5. Aliens – It wouldn’t be “Doctor Who” without extraterrestrials. Expect new and old aliens this season. A two-part episode will feature the return of Zygons, according to a press release, while another episode will feature these creatures pictured below. No word on what these aliens are yet.

6. The End Is Not Near – Moffat is signed on to run “Doctor Who” for the next five seasons, so don’t worry about the time lord. The Doctor isn’t leaving TV any time soon.

7. Still No Sherlock – Moffat runs both “Doctor Who” and “Sherlock,” but the two will not crossover. “I got persuaded by Mark [Gatiss], Benedict [Cumberbatch], [executive producer Sue Vertue] and Martin [Freeman] saying, ‘Look, it will never be as good as they think it’s going to be,’” Moffat explained to Entertainment Weekly. It looks like viewers seeking a crossover will have to stick to fan fiction.

“Doctor Who” Season 9 will return in the fall on BBC America.
