Queens Park Rangers? David Beckham poses with his hands on his knees along with Her Majesty and Sir John Major in Buckingham Palace 'squad photo'

He is considered football royalty.

But David Beckham looked like he was posing for a football squad photograph as he met a true regal figure at Buckingham Palace on Monday, hosted by none other than Her Majesty, the Queen.

The Manchester United and England legend, sitting with his hands placed on his knees next to the Queen, was a special guest at HM The Queen's Young Leaders Event, which celebrates Britain and the Commonwealth's emerging business talent.

His pose looked strikingly similar to the one used by footballers - and Beckham himself back in the day - in team photographs before the season gets under way.

Looking typically on-trend, the 40 year-old wore a dark, navy blue suit which he matched with a crisp, white shirt for a classic style as he mingled with Sir John Major and the award winners.

Adding a modern touch, he also boasted a white pocket square and a polka dot tie.

Complete with a pair of leather shoes and some designer stubble, not to mention his best 'blue steel' pose, the former England captain was deftly dapper.

Practice makes perfect: Beckham (top row, left of centre) had 21 years to perfect his squad photo look, including with the Treble-winning Manchester United team before the 2000-2001 season

However, there was absolutely no sign of his designer wife, former Spice Girl Victoria, or their children Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper.

Fortunately there were other other glamorous women in attendance - in particular, former Radio 1 DJ Fearne Cotton.
