While many women avoid foods that have a high salt content due to fear of bloating and water retention, super-trim Jessica Alba has surprised fans by revealing she follows a sodium-heavy diet.

The Sin City star, 34, told Delish that she gets 'woozy' if she doesn't have enough salt due to 'low blood sugar and low blood pressure'.

Mother-of-two Jessica said she discovered the deficiency after visiting a medical professional.

After telling the food publication that she's 'not much of a sweets person', she added: 'I told my doctor I eat an abnormal amount of salt, and he said, "Did you know it's because you're naturally low? Your body overcompensates and needs more salt."

'That's how I justify all the salt I pour on everything.'

In order to stop feeling light-headed Jessica said that she carries a bottle of coconut water with her or adds a pinch of pink Himalayan salt to water.

The Californian-born actress also told Delish that she tries to stay healthy by having salads most week nights and makes her own dressing because it 'just tastes better'.

Jessica, who has appeared in countless '100 Sexiest Woman Of All Time' lists for the likes of FHM and Maxim, rustles up 'chicken quesadilla with corn tortillas - and gallons of hot sauce' when she's in the mood for a treat.

She has such an obsession with super-sizzling hot sauce she said it's like she's trying to 'burn a hole through my stomach'.

The Alba family fridge always contains at least 'five or six' varieties of hot sauce with Jessica adding, 'Anything habanero-Caribbean-flavored, I'm down with.'

While many children shy away from spicy foods, her daughters - Honor Marie Warren, seven, and three-year-old Haven Garner Warren - appear to have picked up their mother's fiery appetite and request 'Cholula' (a special blend of red peppers, piquin peppers and spices) on their meals.

As well as spicing up her salads, Jessica, who is married to actor Cash Warren, 36, told the publication her tips for improving the taste of raw kale.

She said she 'massages' it with salad dressing to take away the bitter taste and then eats it straight away.

Despite the bronde-haired starlet's svelte frame, she isn't afraid to devour the odd treat now and again.

Jessica, who recently made a cameo in Taylor Swift's Bad Blood music video, said her top guilty pleasure is 'nachos' which she tops with 'homemade black beans and jalapeno-almond cheese'.

In order to keep her tiny figure in check, Jessica recently told the June issue of Shape magazine that while 'working out sucks' she enjoys attending gym classes as it keeps her 'motivated'.

'These days, I do power yoga with light weights in a 105-degree room, so it’s a mix of hot yoga and strength training. I also spin,' she said.

'The key for me is good music, like 2 Chainz, Lil Wayne, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Beyoncé.'
