Still got the X factor: David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reunite as Mulder and Scully to tease X-Files reboot

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reunited on the cover of this week's Entertainment Weekly promoting what may be one of the most anticipated reboots of late, X-Files.

The pair - who famously played Mulder and Scully - cling together on the blue-tinted cover, which plays on the series' tagline, claiming: 'The truth is in here!'

The reunion brings David, 54, and Gillian, 46, back together after last appearing onscreen as their paranormal-investigating alter egos in the 2008 feature film following the series, The X-Files: I Want To Believe.

On the cover, Gillian sports a fitted, navy blue suit jacket, which is coupled with a long-sleeved white shirt.

Her long blonde locks are styled in loose curls, and she dons a red lipstick as she stares into the camera, while holding tightly to David's tie.

David sports a stylish navy blue suit in the picture, which he also coupled with a crisp, white button down.

However, he accessorized with a black wristwatch, and a crimson tie, the standout color - along with the X-Files' bright yellow print - on the nearly all-blue cover.

Entertainment Weekly also posted a sneak preview for the cover story on Thursday, giving a quick look at the reboot, which was filmed in Vancouver.

When they return, Fox Mulder (David) and Dana Scully (Gillian) will be seen investigating the case of a possible alien abductee (Annet Mahendru from The Americans), at the request of a strange ally - the host of a conservative talk show (played by Community's Joel McHale).

'Mulder’s not in a great place,' David told the publication, of his character. 'He’s wearing bad jeans, so you can just extrapolate from my wardrobe. He’s in a dark, dark place.'

Gillian teased: 'I like where we find Mulder and Scully in their relationship.' She also spoke of the story creator Chris Carter has planned for the recent reboot.

'I also like the area of zeitgeist that we step in to. It’s on point and raises some very interesting issues. And question marks,' she said.

The X-Files ran from 1993-2002, with the series inspiring two spin-off films with 1998's The X Files and 2008's The X Files: I Want To Believe.

Chris's original stories played on the anxieties of the Nineties, but now he said he's found new inspiration due to modern day concerns.

'The X-Files ended right after 9/11,' he said, adding: 'A lot has happened since then. A lot of rollback of rights and liberties in the name of our protection.'

'We’re being spied on now, we’re being lied to - all things that, for me, remind me of when I grew up, which was right around Watergate. I think we’re in similar and much more dire times right now.'

The magazine also revealed that key writers James Wong, Glen Morgan, and Darin Morgan from the original series would be returning to write monster-of-the-week episodes along with Carter.

However, they did clarify that despite the name of the reboot's second episode - Home Again - it would not be a follow-up to the infamous 1996 episode Home.

The magazine described that unforgettable episode as 'a queasy horror opus,' following a lunatic love story about deformed, inbred children and the limbless mother they keep under their bed.'

Mitch Pileggi will return as FBI boss Skinner and William B. Davis is back as the Cigarette Smoking Man, but the series creators promise new frights as well.

'We’re not going to reboot any of the old favorites, although it was something we all thought about, Chris said, adding: 'These are all brand new stories. We hope to scare you in brand new ways.'

The six-episode reboot is set to premiere on Fox on Sunday, January 24, 2016.
