Angel di Maria vows to stay at Manchester United despite admitting he is unhappy amid reported interest from Barcelona

Angel di Maria has vowed to stay at Manchester United and make a success of his British record £59.7million transfer from Real Madrid last summer despite admitting that he is unhappy in England.

Di Maria has been linked with moves to Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Barcelona following a disappointing first campaign in the Premier League in which the Argentina star scored three league goals and only made one start after he was sent off in the FA Cup defeat to Arsenal in March. The 27-year-old and his family were also unsettled by an attempted break-in at their Cheshire home in January.

United boss Louis van Gaal has not ruled out the possibility of Di Maria leaving Old Trafford after just one season, and warned him last month that he must work harder to adapt to the English game.

Di Maria, who is away on international duty with Argentina at the Copa America, admitted that he was frustrated spending so much time on the bench but has no intention of leaving.

Asked by Argentine newspaper Ole if it has been difficult in England, he said: ‘Yes, for me and my family. Because not everything goes as I want, because I don’t play.

‘I came with an intention and end up on the bench. It’s hard to say how I feel there.

‘I started well with goals and assists. I was having a good time, until I was out. It’s a little hard to explain why I do not play.

‘No [I will not leave] because I’m not thinking like that. In Madrid there were times when I was whistled around the stadium but faced it and then it turned around. I like to deal with things.’

Spanish newspaper Sport claim Di Maria has been offered to Barcelona by his agent Jorge Mendes, but it is understood the La Liga champions are merely 'keeping tabs' on his situation.

Mundo Deportivo has also suggested Real Madrid inserted a clause as part of Di Maria's sale to Manchester United which would prohibit Barcelona from signing their former player.

Sportsmail, meanwhile, has been told Josep Maria Bartomeu and Joan Laporta, two candidates for Barcelona's upcoming presidential election, have more interest in Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba.

Laporta landed Ronaldinho ahead of Manchester United when he was elected in 2003, and the presidential candidate is seeking talks with Pogba's agent Mino Raiola.

The 22-year-old is understood to prefer a move to Barcelona instead of Manchester City, Chelsea or Paris Saint-Germain, though he remains under contract with Juve until 2019.

Any notion of the move for Pogba cannot take place until January 2016, however, when Barca's transfer ban is lifted.
