Matthew Boler (pictured), now an 11-month-old Texas boy, was born with craniosyntotis (left), a condition that prevents his brain from growing normally. The dangerous condition meant that the infant had been born without a soft spot on his head, causing the bones of his skull to fuse together prematurely, as these bones normally don't come together until a child is about two years of age. He had to undergo surgery and wear a protective helmet for four months (top right) after the procedure as he recovered. Now the 11-month-old is back to his normal self (bottom right). The condition was caught early, at his two-month check-up, and his mother, Megan Boler, hopes her son's story will raise awareness of the condition.
