'Caitlyn Jenner, I'm sorry': Darren Criss apologizes for inappropriate comments he made during Hedwig And The Angry Inch performance
Earlier this week Darren Criss made an off-colour comment during a performance of Broadway show Hedwig And The Angry Inch.
A theatergoer took to Twitter to share the remark, writing: 'Tonight, Darren Criss, as HEDWIG said, ‘man, woman, moman, wan, Bruce Jenner, whatever you are' and it was very distasteful.'
Following the backlash the 28-year-old former Glee star posted an apology on Facebook, ensuring fans it was a mistake and, adding that 'in no way do the remarks reflect my personal belief system or my support for transgender people.'

Making it right: Darren Criss made an off-colour comment about Caitlyn Jenner during a performance of Hedwig And The Angry Inch this week, so he took to Facebook to apologize to her and all transgender people
Darren currently stars as the titular Hedwig in the show which follows a genderqueer East German singer who suffered a botched gender reassignment surgery.
Taye Diggs will take over the role - which has also recently been portrayed by Neil Patrick Harris and Michael C. Hall - beginning July 22.
Darren upset fans this week when he made the offensive comment as Hedwig while performing in the show.
However, he insisted the remarks did not reflect his true feelings, and took to Facebook to try and clear the air.
'In no way reflect my belief system': Darren assured fans that he supported Caitlyn and the entire LGBTQIA community
He wrote: 'I want to sincerely apologize to Caitlyn Jenner, all transgender people, and anyone who was offended for my words on stage during Tuesday evening's performance.'
The performer continued: 'However, I do realize the severity of the comment and the weight that words can carry and for that, I take full responsibility. I commend Caitlyn on her strength and for spreading acceptance around the globe.'
Darren finished his heart-felt apology by adding: 'I have been and remain a proud and unwavering ally of the LGBTQIA community, and will continue to walk alongside my friends on the road to full equality and acceptance.'

And Darren demonstrated this support on Friday as he shared his elation on Twitter after news that the Supreme Court had ruled in favour of gay marriage nationwide.
The Girl Most Likely actor posted a series of emphatic tweets, beginning with: 'After a much needed late sleep-in I'm so happy to wake up to the best news ever. Thank God. Finally. #LoveWins Proud to be American today.'
He later even admitted he had to get out of his house and to be surrounded by people in order to celebrate the momentous day.
'I was at home thinking, man I gotta go be with people and celebrate somewhere. So I thought, duh, gotta head to Stonewall Inn. Just what the doctor ordered. EXACTLY the celebration I was lookin for. #LoveWins,' he posted.
Meanwhile, Friday also saw the release of a teaser for Caitlyn Jenner's upcoming eight-part docu-series I Am Cait that debuts July 26.
E! revealed that I Am Cait 'chronicles Jenner's adjustment to living publicly as a transgender woman.' This is the former Olympian's 'new normal' as she has called it.
