David Crosby says Joni Mitchell is 'recovering at home and still not speaking yet'... almost three months after being rushed to hospital

Joni Mitchell is still not speaking according to friend and fellow musician David Crosby.

Back on March 31, the 71-year-old singer-songwriter was rushed to the hospital after collapsing in her Bel Air home.

And now almost three months later, Crosby gave an update on his friend's health and even shed a little more light on what sent her into care during an interview with HuffPost Live on Friday.

The 73-year-old Mr. Tambourine Man hitmaker revealed: 'To my knowledge, she is not speaking yet.'

He also added that he has not spoken with Mitchell but shared that she is no longer at the hospital as he explained: 'She is home, she is in care, she is recovering.'

As the reason for her stay in the hospital has not been disclosed, Crosby claims that the Both Sides Now singer had suffered an aneurysm.

'And nobody found her for awhile,' he added. 'She's going to have to struggle back from it the way you struggle back from a traumatic brain injury.'

As the two have been friends for a long time, Crosby had nothing but good things to say about Mitchell as he said: 'She's a tough girl and very smart.

'So, how much she's going to come back and when, I don't know and I'm not going to guess. I love her. She's probably the best of us – probably the greatest living singer-songwriter.'

In late April it was reported that Mitchell was 'alert' and fully responsive in hospital, her representatives have announced, disputing earlier claims that she was in a coma and unable to respond to her loved ones.

Mitchell, 71, who is known for leading a reclusive life, was said at the time to be unconscious at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, four weeks after she collapsed at her Bel-Air home.

The Big Yellow Taxi singer was described as having 'no immediate prospects for getting better', despite her team telling her worried fans in early April that she was 'awake and in good spirits'.

But on Tuesday night, her representatives firmly denied the shocking claims through Mitchell's website, saying: 'Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma.

'Joni is still in the hospital - but she comprehends, she’s alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected. Joni is a strong-willed woman and is nowhere near giving up the fight.'

They added: 'Please continue to keep Joni in your thoughts. You may add your well wishes for her at the website WeLoveYouJoni.com.' The statement was 'approved by hospital sources'.
