Would YOU try and get it back? The moment a tiger shark steals £6.3k underwater camera from diver... who bravely holds on to it as the predator swims off

  • The tiger shark approaches the diver and immediately goes for his camera
  • Diver holds on and is dragged through the water as he tries to retrieve it
  • Eventually it manages to shake the diver free and swims off with equipment

Wildlife photographers are required to become more creative in order to get the perfect picture – and that includes getting up close and personal with their subjects.

However a diver on holiday in the Bahamas perhaps became too acquainted with a tiger shark after it swam by and stole his $10,000 (£6,300) camera equipment.

The incident was captured by cameraman Shawn Null, who posted it to YouTube, and shows the formidable predator approaching through the murky water.

It swims straight towards where diver Jim Abernethy is stationed and immediately goes for his camera with its mouth.

Struggling against the force of the shark, Jim clings on but is dragged through the water as the predator continues to swim by.

The shark can be seen mouthing on the camera as the photographer looks for an opportunity to pull it free.

Eventually however the marine mammal spins around onto its back causing the diver to let go of the equipment.

The shark then swims away back into the murky water with the camera still firmly held in its mouth.

The tiger shark derives its name from the dark stripes down its body, which resemble a tiger's pattern.

The species is known for its bizarre eating habits and will consume inedible manmade objects – like cameras.
