His fellow fugitive, double killer Richard Matt, was shot dead on Friday. He was finally apprehended by Sergeant Jay Cook, a 21-year veteran and father-of-two, who recognized him and told him to stop. When Sweat fled, Cook opened fire. Addressing reporters on Sunday night, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said: 'The nightmare is finally over.'
