Liverpool have discussed a move for Swedish U21 international Ludwig Augustinsson. The 21-year-old is the player who branded Gareth Southgate's U21 squad as 'overrated'. 

Liverpool want back-up for Alberto Moreno with Jose Enrique likely to depart this summer and Augustinsson, who joined Copenhagen in January, would cost around £2million.

Sampdoria coach Walter Zenga, meanwhile, has ruled out a move for Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli although Trabzonspor have expressed interest.

Porto are leading the chase for Southampton target Giannelli Imbula. The Marseille midfielder has offers from Southampton and Inter Milan but Porto have offered £20million to Marseille and a five year contract to the player.

Southampton had offered £1.5million loan fee with a guaranteed £14.5m payment following next summer.

The 22-year-old France U21 international is one of the most coveted midfielders in Europe and Southampton see him as an ideal replacement for Morgan Schneiderlin.

The Southampton midfielder turned up for pre-season on Monday and Manchester United have still to reach an agreement with the south coast club over the transfer fee.

Another option for Southampton, Lille midfielder Idrissa Gueye is now talking to Marseille over a deal to replace Imbula.

Southampton hope to have some joy on recruitment after discussing a £7million offer for Juventus defender Angelo Ogbonna.

Everton and West Ham United have also asked about the 27-year-old.

United had been discussing Monaco right-back Fabinho but Manchester City have now moved into the race for the 21-year-old Brazilian.

West Ham do have an interest in Liverpool striker Fabio Borini but he is not their prime target.

Liverpool value the 24-year-old Italy international at £8million and West Ham would prefer a loan. 

Their priority targets remain Loic Remy of Chelsea and QPR's Charlie Austin, whichever one they can strike a better bargain for.

Manchester United's Javier Hernandez has also been discussed but he has several other options to consider.

West Ham are working against strong competition to bring in Monaco centre-back Aymen Abdennour and Alex Song from Barcelona.

Song has agreed personal terms but West Ham hope to get the player out of Barcelona on a free transfer and the Spanish are holding out for a fee.

Abdennour has confirmed interest from AC Milan and Newcastle while Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal have also been credited with an interest but have yet to make offers. Abdennour is keen on the Premier League.

Stoke have joined Leicester and Sunderland in showing interest for West Ham midfielder Stewart Downing. 

The England international is interested in a return north and West Ham may consider selling if the bidding goes beyond £7million.

 

The agent of Manchester City striker Stevan Jovetic is to hold further talks with Inter Milan and has scheduled meetings with AC, Juventus and Roma this week.

City want £18million for Jovetic which has proved prohibitive so far with the Italian clubs keen on a loan with view to a £12m permanent deal next summer.

Roma are working on a deal for Manchester City Edin Dzeko. The Italians have been discussing Everton's Romelu Lukaku but are struggling to afford the 22-year-old Belgian and are considering Dzeko again who could be bought for around £20m. 

Roma have also mentioned using winger Adem Ljajic as part of the deal. Ljajic almost joined Manchester United in 2010 but the Old Trafford club pulled the plug on the deal and he joined Fiorentina instead.

City have an offer from Marseille for defender Karim Rekik and remain in discussions with Fulham for teenage midfielder Patrick Roberts.

Besiktas have made an offer for Fulham misfit Greece international striker Kostas Mitroglu.

 

Monaco and Vitesse Arnhem would like Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan from Chelsea but the England U21 international is hoping to stay at Stamford Bridge and gain more experience in Chelsea's first team.

Monaco want three players on loan in return for Radamel Falcao with Mario Pasalic and Charly Musonda still the more likely candidates.

Andreas Christensen is also poised to join Borussia Monchengladbach despite being another Monaco requested.

Vitesse head coach Peter Bosz, who is taking Lewis Baker on loan, discussed a move for Loftus-Cheek, saying: 'We know what we want, but it is also dependent on what happens at Chelsea. 

'For example, we wanted to bring Ruben Loftus-Cheek here, but he is playing more at Chelsea now so a loan is impossible.'

 

Bobby Zamora is considering a return to Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 34-year-old is a free agent after leaving QPR and is wanted by Chris Hughton to spearhead Brighton's push for promotion.

Although injuries have hindered his playing time at QPR he finished the season well and is keen on a return to his old stomping ground. Zamora also has interest from Premier League sides such as West Brom though would not be guaranteed regular playing time.

QPR have made a £2.5million move for FC Groningen midfielder Tjaronn Chery, 27, while Galatasaray are interested in midfielder Sandro.

However, QPR face competition from Aston Villa for Chery who has just been called up to Holland's national squad.
