Working it out: Last month Van Damme suggested that things were back on track with his wife Gladys Portugues - pictured together August 2012 in London - as she filed for divorce March
The Bloodsport actor was previously divorced from Gladys back in 1992 before they remarried seven years later; then in March of this year she filed for their second divorce.
But when asked about the split by TMZ on Sunday, the actor suggested things were back on track, citing 'love' and family obligations for inspiring a reconciliation with the mother of his two children.
'The JCVD family is still strong,' the actor said. 'The kids are strong, the wife is strong. There's so much divorce around the world and it's very bad for the children.'
Staying together for the kids: Nicholas Van Varenberg, Jean-Claude, Gladys, Bianca Bree Van Varenberg and Kris Van Varenberg at the Expendables 2 premiere i Hollywood back in August 2012
He continued: 'The couple has to work their stuff together no matter what they have to do.
'Divorcing before is not funny for the children, the people and parents... and even for the country. If people can stick together like in the old time it will make America strong.'
Van Damme's wife Gladys filed for divorce in March and specified 'irreconcilable differences' as the reason for the split.
Together they have two adult children, son, Kristopher, and daughter, Bianca.
In court documents she sought spousal support from the action film hero, who is believed to have a $30million fortune.
