Jermain Defoe shows off his musical talents as Sunderland striker tries his hand at playing guitar during open mic event
- Jermain Defoe signed for Sunderland from Toronto FC in January
- The striker scored four goals in 19 games for the Black Cats last season
- Defoe performed at an open mic night singing and playing the guitar
- The 32-year-old has been capped 55 times by England, scoring 19 goals
Jermain Defoe showed that he is not afraid to try new things beyond playing football as he performed at an open mic night.
The Sunderland striker played an Ibanez SDGR five-string bass guitar and sang at the event as he tried to prove he is multi-skilled.
It costs around £250-£300 to buy the guitar, a measly sum for a Premier League footballer earning thousands a week.

Defoe posted a picture to his Instagram page of him playing the guitar at the mic, and captioned it 'Open mic so why not #skills #vocal #goosebumps'.
It is not clear if he was actually any good, and with the focus of the room undoubtedly on him throughout the night, he could be forgiven for any nerves, although playing in front of thousands of supporters each week will have been good preparation.
The 32-year-old is not short on confidence on the pitch though, setting himself a target of 20 goals for the forthcoming season.
'Hopefully we'll have a good pre-season and we can start the season really strong,' he told Sky Sports News HQ.

Defoe says he is aiming to score 20 goals in the forthcoming Premier League season for the Black Cats
'People say you should always aim for 20 goals in a season and if I'm scoring goals it's only good for the club and the team.'
Defoe, who has 55 caps and 19 goals for England, scored four times in 19 matches after joining Sunderland from Toronto FC in January.
He enjoyed himself at the open mic event after his foundation hosted a charity football tournament on Sunday.
