She's got the world's most in-demand fashion designers on speed dial, spends her nights hot-footing from one showbiz bash to the next and counts Nick Grimshaw, Pixie Geldof and Poppy Delevingne amongst her closest friends.

But style icon Alexa Chung, 31, insists her life isn't as joyful and exciting as it appears for her 1.8 million followers on Instagram.

Speaking to The Telegraph's Stella, the Hampshire-born IT girl revealed, 'No one is as happy as they seem on Instagram. Even friends of mine. I'll say, "Wow, that looked amazing!" and they'll be like, "Nah, it wasn't."

'I tell them, "You need to stop putting that stuff up because it looks perfect." But then Instagram would be awful if it was reality, wouldn't it?'

The former TV presenter shares candid snaps of her celebrity friends on the social media site - most recently posting images of their jaunt to Glastonbury - as well as glamorous magazine shoots, holiday photographs and selfies.

Having moved to New York six years ago to front the now defunct MTV programme, It's On With Alexa Chung, the former Popworld host said the Big Apple isn't as alluring as it may seem.

Telling the British broadsheet supplement that her trendy East Village apartment is 'nothing crazy', she goes on to to say that the 'night-time invitations are fancy-pants' but by the end of the evening she's like Cinderella having 'lost a shoe' and 'going home in a pumpkin'.

The British-born muse also shares images of beauty routine, including this one of her getting her hair done

In fact, Alexa, who dated Arctic Monkey's front man Alex Turner for four years and is now seeing Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgard, is currently taking a break from America, admitting, 'I've just felt exhausted by it.'

Recalling one frustrating incident in particular, she tells Stella how she had a 'meltdown' in Starbucks because they 'didn't know how to make an English Breakfast tea'.

Model Alexa is currently busy curating her latest collection for US denim label AG (Alexa Chung for AG), inspired by American girl gangs.

The diffusion line allows her to warm up to launching her very own fashion collection, which she said 'seems scary'.

However, the Longchamp campaign star said she has become more philosophical about things after turning 30 last year.

'I got more relaxed about things,' she said. 'It’s as though you are a book and you’re getting through the story and it’s OK.'
