United supporters are given the opportunity to tee off with their sporting heroes by paying £1,500 to enter a three-man team - with a player or legend making up the fourth player in the team and proceeds being used to support charities across Greater Manchester.

The event raised over £20,000 for the foundation, and it has raised more than £100,000 in total since 2010.

Wayne Rooney is a two-time champion - winning in 2011 and 2012 - while Michael Carrick took the crown in 2013 with Giggs coming out on top last year.

It was a pair of United old boys celebrating this time with Denis Irwin taking the individual prize and Quinton Fortune's team coming out on top.

United are in need of a player who can play right back after Van Gaal decided the Brazilian Rafael is not up to the job.

It is understood that United have been negotiating with Torino over 25-year-old Darmian and are hopeful of reaching an agreement in the region of £11m.

And, David de Gea was all smiles in training on Tuesday morning as his transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid moved a little closer.

The Spain goalkeeper cracked a joke with compatriots Ander Herrera and Victor Valdes as he walked out at United's Carrington training base.

It came as reports in Spain suggested Iker Casillas is ready to leave the Bernabeu and join Porto, clearing the way for De Gea to assume the No 1 shirt.
