Michael Douglas lost his mother Diana Dill to cancer at the weekend.

But it was back to work for the 70-year-old actor's wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, who put on a brave face to officially open the Ageas Bowl Hilton Hotel near Southampton on Monday.

The 45-year-old actress was a total professional and showed no sign of her family's heartache as she mourned the sad passing of her mother-in-law.

Catherine looked sophisticated in a smart white dress with sheer, horizontal stripe detailing.

She pulled the look together with a scarlet clutch bag, satin heels and matching red lipstick, wearing her dark locks cascading over one shoulder.

The Welsh star - who is a friend of Rod Bransgrove, the Hampshire County Cricket Chairman - gave the new hotel the Hollywood seal of approval, unveiling a plaque and delivering a speech to the crowd.

The establishment is attached to the Ageas Bowl stadium and many of its rooms look out onto the cricket pitch.

According to the Southern Daily Echo, the Chicago actress stayed overnight with her children Carys and Dylan.

She told the crowd: 'I'm here because my dear friends - it makes me sound old - of 30 years. I'm here to support them because they have given me support each and every step of the way, for every dream I've ever dreamed.'

Meanwhile, her husband of 14 years, Michael, was spotted landing in London's Heathrow airport following the sad news of his mother's death.

Dressed in a grey suit jacket and a baseball cap, the actor kept a low profile as he arrived in the UK ahead of his new movie Ant-Man's premiere on Wednesday, which he is still expected to attend.

His actress mother Diana - who appeared in the likes of Dynasty, ER and Planes, Trains And Automobiles - passed away on Saturday at the age of 92.

She was living in a care home for Hollywood stars in California.
