He has a reputation as something of a wild one in Hollywood, but in private Shia LaBoeuf is a mommy's boy at heart.

The 29-year-old actor affectionately held hands with his mother Shayna Saide on Sunday while taking her out for lunch in Los Angeles.

Shia is known for his eccentric style and it appears his sartorial streak runs in the family as Shayna, a visual artist and jewellery designer, was dressed in clothing reminiscent of a renaissance fair goer for the casual outing.

The mother-of-one wore a delicate lace shawl, an embroidered dress with a large belt and silver buckle with thick leather boots.

Shayna tied her auburn hair in a loose braid while holding hands with her famous son, who sported a snap back cap, sleeveless shirt, and cut-off jean shorts.

And always one to push the style envelope, Shia wore socks with sandals for the outing.

Shia is the only child of Shayna and her ex-husband Jeffrey LaBoeuf and the actor was primarily raised by his mother in the Echo Park area of Los Angeles after his parents divorced in his youth.

His mother, who still lives in Los Angeles, was a dancer in her youth and has now become a visual artist and clothing jewellery designer.

Shayna had her first official art show in Los Angeles last year titled An Invitation To A Dream, which featured mixed media works and standalone sculptures.

The show was part of a Mother’s Day series at Bergamot Station.

Shia’s father was a Vietnam War veteran, who reportedly struggled with addiction and once, according to Shia, pointed a gun at his son during a flashback to the war.

During a chat with Interview Magazine last year, Shia said of his father: The only thing my father gave me that was of any value to me is pain.'

'We manipulate each other. We service each other,' he continued. 'My dad is the key to most of my base emotions. My greatest and my worst memories are with my father, all my major trauma and major celebration came from him. It's a negative gift.'

LaBeouf has previously described his parents as hippies. But he has also admitted that his father not only struggled with alcohol but was also placed in treatment for heroin addiction.

His parents eventually split when he was still quite young. His mother supported him by selling fabrics and brooches but it was a struggle. At one point his uncle considered adopting him because his parents could not afford to properly take care of him.

Shia, to this day, still financially supports both his mother and father.
