George Osborne today took aim at Britain's welfare state, warning people able to work should look for a job and take it when it is offered. The Chancellor vowed to make Britain a low-tax, high-wage economy as he promised to finish the job of fixing the economy. He is using a speech in the Commons to announce sweeping tax cuts for the low paid and middle classes while taking the axe to Britain's benefits bill. But he also dramatically ditched plans to balance the books by 2018-19, with Britain now not expected to be back in the black and running a surplus until a year later.

Mistress Evilyne, 31 (pictured), who runs the Dungeon Manor in Orpington, south east London, has been reported to police after neighbours complained about the sounds coming from the dungeon at her £750,000 property. The former pastry chef, 31, charges clients between £200-an-hour to £1,200-a-night to 'be her slave' but insists she does not offer sexual services. The Dungeon Manor, which is kitted out with shackles and leather, is available to hire for couples and professionals and can be rented out for filming and photography. However, Mistress Evilyne has found herself being shunned by her neighbours in the leafy suburb, who are fed up with the noises and fear children may be 'exposed to something they shouldn't see'. One neighbour, who asked not to be named, even said the dungeon would 'affect property prices' in the area, where five-bedroom homes sell for upwards of £1million.

Engineer Mike Greenham recorded cosmic scenes from up to 50 million light years away from his garden in Northamptonshire. His images show scenes from outside our solar system, such as the star-studded Andromeda Galaxy (left) as well as the Orion Nebula in the Milky Way (bottom right) and sunspots on our sun (rop right).

Washington DC's National Building Museum turned into giant beach-themed ball pit

The 'Beach' is meant to represent an ocean and is made up of nearly a million recyclable translucent balls across the floor at the National Building Museum in Washington DC in the US. Along with the expansive ball ocean - in which visitors are encouraged to jump, flip and submerse themselves - there is also a 50ft-wide shoreline, which houses beach chairs, umbrella and a snack bar. The creation is the brainchild of Brooklyn-based studio Snarkitecture and will run until September 7, bringing the quintessential summer experience indoors.
