Bono's actress daughter Eve Hewson on why she refuses to become another 'celebrity kid cliché' as she stars in glamorous cover shoot for Town & Country

  • The actress features on the front of the magazine's August issue, out today - which is her 24th birthday
  • She is named as of 50 'Modern Swans', a list that also includes Meryl Streep's daughter, Louisa Gummer, and Kate Moss' sister, Lottie Moss

Growing up as the child of a rockstar has its perks, but now Eve Hewson, daughter of U2 frontman Bono, is breaking away from her father’s famous name and carving out a successful career of her own – cementing her own success by appearing on the cover of the latest Town & Country.

The actress fronts the magazine's second annual Modern Swans issue, out today - which also happens to be her 24th birthday - and is named as one of 50 young women who are 'making their mark on the world'.

Eve, who clearly inherited some of her dad's talent for entertaining, posed in a glamorous high-collared Bottega Veneta dress and opened up about growing up as a 'celebrity kid'.

The 'Modern Swans' issue gets its name from writer Truman Capote, who referred to high society women as swans. The modern take on the term, Town & Country says, describes a woman who is 'smart, educated, well-traveled, chic, tech savvy, confident, [and] poised'.

Eve, who stars in the Cinnemax TV series The Knick and also appeared in the 2011 Sean Penn film This Must Be the Place, certainly fits the bill. Having grown up in London and currently calling New York home, the jetsetting star attended NYU before making her mark in the film industry. She's now a regular on the red carpet, stunning in designs by the likes of Chanel, J. Mendel, and Christian Dior.

In the magazine's August issue, she dished on what it was like to grow up with a dad like Bono, saying: '[There was] music all around and writers walking in and out. I was constantly dancing in front of the TV and pissing everyone off. [They’d say] "Stop dancing, Eve!"'

But despite her penchant for stealing attention, Eve had no desire to follow the traditional route of so many famous offspring, who attach their name to any project that will get them noticed.

'There’s the cliché of the celebrity kid with a fragrance and a handbag line and they design jewelry on the side and maybe dabble in acting,' she said. 'I’ve always been very particular about the fact that [acting] is the one thing I want to do.'

However, being so sure of herself does seem to get in the way of her love life. Not that she's too worried about it: 'My sister says, "You need to look more available... You’re so confident in yourself, you look like you have a boyfriend." I’m [24], I don’t need a boyfriend. It’s so much fun being on your own.'

The cover star is one of 50 'swans' to appear in the issue, a list which also includes some other familiar names.

Meryl Streep's daughter, Louisa Gummer, also posed for the magazine. The 24-year-old model has has her mom's good looks, and has appeared in campaigns for Dior and Roberto Cavalli.

More famous daughters include model and World Wildlife Fund advocate Kenya Kinski Jones, whose dad is producer Quincey Jones, and model Josie Canseco, whose dad is former baseball player Jose Canseco.

Kate Moss’ younger half-sister Lottie Moss, and Caroline Kennedy's daughters Rose and Tatiana Schlossberg, were named as 'swans' as well.

Being related to a recognizable name isn't a prerequisite for landing a spot on the list, though. Some of the issue's young stars built up impressive resumes without being related to a celebrity.

Also featured are Shiza Shahid, 24, who is a co-founder and CEO of the Malala Fund with Malala Yousafzai, and Whitney Wolfe, 25, who is a co-founder of the dating apps Tinder and Bumble.
